Martin Luther King,
Jr. (January 15, 1929 – April 4,
1968)
An American clergyman,
activist, and leader in
the African-American Civil
Rights Movement
He is best known for his role in
the advancement of civil
rights using nonviolent civil
disobedience




He led the
1955 Montgomery Bus
Boycott
King also helped to
organize the 1963 March
on Washington, where he
delivered his "I Have a
Dream" speech
On October 14, 1964,
King received the Nobel
Peace Prize for combating
racial inequality
through nonviolence
King was assassinated on
April 4, 1968,
in Memphis, Tennessee





The American Civil War fought from 1861 to
1865 between the northern states and the
southern states.
The main issue of the war was around slavery.
The northern states won.
100 year later black and white people were still
NOT EQULE in some states.
150 years later the first Afro-American President
was elected.
Martin Luther King’s Day is observed
on the third Monday of January each year,
near the time of King's birthday
Martin Luther King is a symbol of
the power of Democracy and how
people can change reality and
change the world!
