Transcript WHAT IS A CHRISTIAN?

What is a Christian?
And how does one become a Christian?
1
If we can find a scriptural answer to the first question, we will have gone a
long way toward finding an answer to the second question.
How, then, shall we proceed?
We shall examine the passages where the name, "Christian," is used - each in
its respective context.
There are three such passages.
Acts 11:26
Acts 26:28
1 Peter 4:16
2
Acts 11:19-21
Now those who were scattered after the persecution
that arose over Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia,
Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to no one
but the Jews only.

Acts 11:19-21
Now those who were scattered after the persecution
that arose over Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia,
Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to no one
but the Jews only.
But some of them were men from Cyprus and
Cyrene, who, when they had come to Antioch, spoke
to the Hellenists, preaching the Lord Jesus.

of heart they should continue with the Lord.
For he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of
faith. And a great many people were added to the
Lord.

words from you."

Romans 7:3
So then if, while her husband lives, she marries
another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her
husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is
no adulteress, though she has married another man.
21
Hebrews 8:4-5
For if He were on earth, He would not be a priest,
since there are priests who offer the gifts according
to the law; who serve the copy and shadow of the
heavenly things, as Moses was divinely instructed
when he was about to make the tabernacle. For He
said, "See that you make all things according to the
pattern shown you on the mountain."
22
Hebrews 11:7
By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not
yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for
the saving of his household, by which he condemned
the world and became heir of the righteousness which
is according to faith.
23
Hebrews 12:25
See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if
they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on
earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away
from Him who speaks from heaven, whose voice then
shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying,
"Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also
heaven."
24
Acts 11:25-26, YLT
And Barnabas went forth to Tarsus, to seek for
Saul, and having found him, he brought him to
Antioch, and it came to pass that they a whole year
did assemble together in the assembly, and taught a
great multitude, the disciples also were divinely called
first in Antioch Christians.

Isaiah 62:1-2
For Zion's sake I will not hold My peace, And for
Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, Until her
righteousness goes forth as brightness, And her
salvation as a lamp that burns.
26
Isaiah 62:1-2
For Zion's sake I will not hold My peace, And for
Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, Until her
righteousness goes forth as brightness, And her
salvation as a lamp that burns. The Gentiles shall see
your righteousness, And all kings your glory. You
shall be called by a new name, Which the mouth of the
Lord will name.

Acts 11:25-26, NKJ
Then Barnabas departed for Tarsus to seek Saul.
And when he had found him, he brought him to
Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they
assembled with the church and taught a great many
people. And the disciples were first called Christians
in Antioch.

28
John 6:44-45
"No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent
Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.
It is written in the prophets, 'And they shall all be
taught by God.' Therefore everyone who has heard
and learned from the Father comes to Me."
29
1 Peter 2:1-3
Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit,
hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn
babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may
grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord
is gracious.
30
1 Peter 2:21-24
For to this you were called, because Christ also
suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should
follow His steps: "Who committed no sin, Nor was
deceit found in His mouth"; who, when He was
reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He
did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who
judges righteously; who Himself bore our sins in His
own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins,
might live for righteousness--by whose stripes you
were healed.
31
James 1:22-25
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only,
deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the
word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his
natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes
away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he
was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty
and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a
doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he
does.
