Objective 13.01
• Discuss the various breeds of cattle, swine,
and poultry as related to the economic value
of each breed
Beef
• Predominant English
beef breeds in the
United States.
Angus
• Black or red breed
• Known for excellent
meat quality
Hereford
• Red cattle with a white
face
• Known for mothering
ability
Shorthorn
• Have been used in the
bloodlines of more
than thirty recognized
breeds of beef cattle.
Exotic Breeds
• Imported to the US when consumers
demanded a leaner meat.
• Have calves that grow faster than English
breeds
• Examples: Charolais, Limousin, Simmental

Types of swine operations
