• Commercial/Industrial existing buildings are eligible • Eligible buildings have $75,000 or more in annual electrical bills. • NYSERDA cost-shares 50% of energy study up to $500,000 ($1,000,000 for Con Ed territory) for 5 years • Services include: Comprehensive Energy Reduction Plan, Retro-commissioning, Long-term Energy Management, Budget Strategies for Equipment Upgrades • Use one of NYSERDA ’ s Flextech firms, or your own firm

Whole Building Energy Modeling – Evaluation of Interactive Effects • Technical Assistance During Preliminary Design Phase • Maximize potential for incentives.

s Home Center - Glenville, NY, Schenectady County (Retail) Background

The new Lowe ’ s Home Center, in Glenville, NY, is a

116,000

square foot stand-alone retail facility housing home and garden sales, lumber and building supplies, as well as office space.

Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) was retained by NYSERDA to evaluate electric energy efficiency opportunities for the new building, under the New York Energy $mart New Construction Program.

Recommendations

SAIC completed an evaluation of energy efficiency opportunities for the new Lowe ’ s Home Center based on the design documents, Lowe ’ s consultant-provided information, and energy model comparisons to establish energy efficiency improvements available for implementation.

Among the energy efficiency improvements implemented under the Whole Building Pathway in this building were:

NCP8423 – Anheuser-Busch Regional Distribution Center Bronx, NY, Bronx County (Warehouse) Background

Anheuser-Busch is building a new

180,000

square foot regional distribution center in the Bronx, NY, that includes a two-story office, refrigerated warehouse, and recycling center. Anheuser-Busch is committed to a reduction in electrical and thermal energy use, optimizing the energy efficiency of the entire building, as well as obtaining LEED certification for the new facility.

Ambrosino, DePinto & Schmieder (ADS) was retained by NYSERDA to evaluate electric energy efficiency opportunities for the new facility, under the New York Energy $mart New Construction Program

Recommendations

ADS identified cost-effective improvements to the building and building systems which will reduce its energy consumption, decrease utility distribution system demands, increase occupant comfort, and decrease the environmental impacts of the construction process. Among the energy efficiency improvements implemented under the

NCP2424 – Weill Cornell Medical College, Weill Greenberg Center New York, NY, New York County (Hospitals) Background

Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC) built a new

330,000

square foot, 15-story facility which includes exam rooms, office space, teaching facilities, and patient areas, with three below grade levels for parking, storage, and additional mechanical space. EME Group (EME) was retained by NYSERDA to evaluate electric energy efficiency opportunities for the new facility, under the New York Energy $mart New Construction Program. For comparative purposes a baseline model was developed meeting the requirements of ASHRAE and the applicable NYS Energy Construction Conservation Code, following NYSERDA ’ s requirements.

Recommendations

EME investigated and analyzed several energy efficiency measures through the Whole Building approach, for consideration and inclusion in the project. Among the energy efficiency improvements implemented under the

NCP7668 – RPI Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies Troy, NY, Rensselaer County (LAB)

Background

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies embarked on a Bioresearch Core Expansion project in Troy, NY, incorporating a

13,000

square foot addition into the first floor of the existing facility. With a commitment to energy efficiency and reducing the facility ’ s environmental impact, several sustainable design features were identified and incorporated.

Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) was retained by NYSERDA to evaluate electric energy efficiency opportunities for the addition under the New York Energy $mart New Construction Program.

Recommendations

SAIC identified cost-effective improvements to the building and building systems which will reduce its energy consumption, decrease utility distribution system demands, increase occupant comfort, and decrease the environmental impacts of the construction process.
