What is the TCAP
Achievement Test?
 The Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program
(TCAP) Achievement Test is at timed, multiple choice
assessment that provides a measure of knowledge and
application skills in Reading, Language Arts,
Mathematics, Science and Social Studies for grades K-8.
 El programa de Tennessee Comprehensive
assessment (TCAP) examen con el tiempo contado para
cada seccion en cada una de las materias. Para medir
el conosimiento y la aplicacion de habilidades en
lectura, Lenguaje, Matematicas, Siencias y estudios
sociales para los grados K-8.
Who will take the
TCAP Achievement Test?
 The TCAP Achievement Test is mandated for all students
in grades 3-8. The test is not mandated for grades K-2;
however, school systems may elect to test students in K, 1,
and/or 2.
Jackson students in second through sixth grade will take
the test.
 El examen TCAP esta obligado a presentar para todos los
estudiantes de los grados 3-8. Este examen no es
obligatorio para los grados K-2; pero, la el sistema de la

What subjects are
covered on the test?
Reading
 The test for grade 2 is the Stanford 10 and it includes reading, language,
mathematics, word study skills, spelling, listening, and environment.
 The tests for grades 3-8 include reading, language arts, mathematics,
science, and social studies.
 Tests are broken into segments for students to take over several days.
 El examen para los grados 2 será de Stanford 10 y esto incluye lectura,

What are the accommodations for special
populations?
There are English Language Learner
Accommodations, Allowable Accommodations, as
well as Special Accommodations available.

How will the scores
be used?
 The results are provided to teachers and
administrators to help them address the
instructional needs of Tennessee students.
They may be used as one measure of student
achievement during the current school year.

Preparing for Testing
 Parents should set aside a daily study time.

 Discuss your child’s school work with him or her regularly.

 Praise your child for hard work, good effort, and work done well.

strengths and
weaknesses.
 Praise your child’s testing
strengths and make a
plan to address identified
weaknesses.

counselor, or principal if
additional information is
required.
