What is the FSC?
Bringing Environmental Understanding to All
Field Studies Council, FSC, is an education charity dedicated
solely to providing informative and enjoyable opportunities for
people of all ages and abilities to discover, explore, be inspired
by, and understand the natural environment.
Formed in 1943, FSC has 70 years experience of providing
field courses.
Every year the FSC welcomes over 2,500 schools (over
125,000 visitors) to its national network of centres.

Why are we going?
Scientific and Geographical Enquiry
• Explore and discover the Snowdonia National Park and
work towards a John Muir award.
• Challenge ourselves to take part in a gorge scramble and a
mountain walk.
• Compare Betws y Coed to Repton.
• Develop personal independence, decision making skills and
teamwork.

FSC Health & Safety
• All our Centres have been awarded the Quality Badge
by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom.
• Our codes of practice exceed the government's and
Local Authorities' guidelines.
• A qualified first aider is available at all times of the
day and night and all field teachers carry first aid
equipment.
• All FSC field sites have been carefully surveyed and
fully risk assessed.
General Health & Safety
Medicines to be handed to Mrs Wells – to be
labelled with child’s name and dosage (school rules to
apply).
Inhalers – to be named, remembered and carried
by child.
Travel sickness medicines – take Monday &
Friday – other days are short journeys, so medicine
to be taken as needed.
Please complete medical forms and final permission
slips and hand in before you leave this meeting.
Meals
Breakfast: cereals,
cooked, toast
Lunch: make your own
sandwiches
Dinner: cooked
selection of mains
You will be expected to: Clear and wipe
your own tables; show respect and good
table manners; use please and thank you;
recycle waste
Accommodation
We will assign
children to rooms
based on the size
of the room and
its location in the
centre.
You will be expected to: make your own beds, keep
your room tidy, be ready for room inspections,
respect and look after everything in the room
including each other and each others belongings.
What to bring
Inside the centre: PJ’s, indoor shoes/trainers,
casual clothing, wash bag, book, magazine, towel
Outside the centre: tracksuit bottoms/old trousers,
shorts, T-shirts, sun hat, warm jumper/fleece
Waterproof clothing: including over trousers, coat,
wellies, walking boots (these can be hired from the
centre)
Additional Items: Wales book (in plastic wallet),
pencil cases, camera (not an expensive one), sun tan
cream, water bottle
What to bring for the gorge scramble
• a spare change of old clothes
(including a spare jumper and trousers
which aren't jeans)
• an old pair of trainers with good grip
• which you don't mind getting wet or
muddy

No boys in girls rooms, no girls in boys

Do not leave the centre without a teacher

Travel Arrangements
Travel by coach – Viking (Protours) Coach

Arrive at school for registration by
6:45am. (If coach already there, load on
way in.)
DON’T FORGET TO BRING A PACKED
LUNCH (no fizzy drinks- it’s a long
journey!).
Load coach and depart 7:00am.
Eat packed lunch when we arrive.
