Eldership and
Church life
Exo 3:16 Go, and gather the
elders of Israel together, and say
unto them, The LORD God of
your fathers, the God of
Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob,
appeared unto me, saying, I have
surely visited you, and seen that
which is done to you in Egypt:
Exo 18:21 Moreover thou shalt provide out of
all the people able men, such as fear God, men
of truth, hating covetousness; and place such
over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers
of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:
Exo 18:22 And let them judge the people at all
seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter
they shall bring unto thee, but every small
matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for
thyself, and they shall bear the burden with
thee.
Exo 19:7 And Moses came and
called for the elders of the
people, and laid before their
faces all these words which the
LORD commanded him.
Num 11:25 And the LORD came
down in a cloud, and spake unto
him, and took of the spirit that
was upon him, and gave it unto
the seventy elders: and it came
to pass, that, when the spirit
rested upon them, they
prophesied, and did not cease.
Deu 31:9 And Moses wrote this
law, and delivered it unto the
priests the sons of Levi, which
bare the ark of the covenant of
the LORD, and unto all the elders
of Israel.
Rev 5:14 And the four beasts
said, Amen. And the four and
twenty elders fell down and
worshipped him that liveth for
ever and ever.
1Pe 5:1 The elders which are among you I
exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of
the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of
the glory that shall be revealed:
1Pe 5:2 Feed the flock of God which is among
you, taking the oversight thereof, not by
constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of
a ready mind;
1Pe 5:3 Neither as being lords over God's
heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
1Pe 5:4 And when the chief Shepherd shall
appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that
fadeth not away.
Jas 5:14 Is any sick among
you? let him call for the elders of
the church; and let them pray
over him, anointing him with oil in
the name of the Lord:
Jas 5:15 And the prayer of faith
shall save the sick, and the Lord
shall raise him up; and if he have
committed sins, they shall be
forgiven him.
Act 21:18 And the day following
Paul went in with us unto James;
and all the elders were present.
Act 21:19 And when he had
saluted them, he declared
particularly what things God had
wrought among the Gentiles by
his ministry.
Act 20:17 And from Miletus he
sent to Ephesus, and called the
elders of the church.

Act 14:21 And when they had preached the
gospel to that city, and had taught many, they
returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and
Antioch,
Act 14:22 Confirming the souls of the disciples,
and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and
that we must through much tribulation enter into
the kingdom of God.
Act 14:23 And when they had ordained them
elders in every church, and had prayed with
fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on
whom they believed.
Tit 1:4 To Titus, mine own son after the common faith:
Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the
Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.
Tit 1:5 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou
shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and
ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:
Tit 1:6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife,
having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.
Tit 1:7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward
of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine,
no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
Tit 1:8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men,
sober, just, holy, temperate;
Tit 1:9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been
taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to
exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
1Ti 3:1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office
of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
1Ti 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband
of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to
hospitality, apt to teach;
1Ti 3:3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy
lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
1Ti 3:4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his
children in subjection with all gravity;
1Ti 3:5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own
house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
1Ti 3:6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he
fall into the condemnation of the devil.
1Ti 3:7 Moreover he must have a good report of them
which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the
snare of the devil.
Act 1:20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation
be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let
another take.
Act 1:21 Wherefore of these men which have companied with us
all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
Act 1:22 Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day
that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a
witness with us of his resurrection.
Act 1:23 And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who
was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.
Act 1:24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest
the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,
Act 1:25 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship,
from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own
place.
Act 1:26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon
Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
Joh 6:70 Jesus
answered them,
Have not I chosen
you twelve, and one
of you is a devil?
Counting Money
Joh 12:4 Then said Judas (the Iscariot,
one of the Twelve--the one who
afterwards betrayed Jesus),
Joh 12:5 "Why was not that perfume sold
for 300 shillings and the money given to
the poor?"
Joh 12:6 The reason he said this was
not that he cared for the poor, but that he
was a thief, and that being in charge of
the money-box, he used to steal what was
put into it.
1Ti 6:10 For the love of money
is a root of all evils, of which
some having lusted after, they
were seduced from the faith and
pierced themselves through with
many sorrows.

Tit 1:5 For this cause I left you in
Crete, that you should set in
order the things that are lacking
and ordain elders in every city, as
I had appointed you,
Tit 1:6 if anyone is blameless,
husband of one wife, having
believing children, not accused of
loose behavior, or disobedient.
1Ti 3:4 ruling his own house
well, having children in subjection
with all honor.
1Ti 3:5 (For if a man does not
know to rule his own house, how
shall he take care of the church
of God?)
Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your
wives, even as Christ also loved the
church and gave Himself for it,
Eph 5:26 that He might sanctify and
cleanse it with the washing of water
by the Word,
Eph 5:27 that He might present it to
Himself as the glorious church,
without spot or wrinkle or any such
things, but that it should be holy and
without blemish.
Mat 23:2 Saying, The scribes and the
Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:
Mat 23:3 All therefore whatsoever they
bid you observe, that observe and do; but
do not ye after their works: for they say,
and do not.
Mat 23:4 For they bind heavy burdens
and grievous to be borne, and lay them
on men's shoulders; but they themselves
will not move them with one of their
fingers.
Mat 23:5 But all their works they do for to
be seen of men:
Mat 23:13 But woe unto you,
scribes and Pharisees,
hypocrites! for ye shut up the
kingdom of heaven against men:
for ye neither go in yourselves,
neither suffer ye them that are
entering to go in.
Love not
legalism
Gal 5:13 For, brethren, ye have
been called unto liberty; only use
not liberty for an occasion to the
flesh, but by love serve one
another.
Gal 5:14 For all the law is
fulfilled in one word, even in this;
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as
thyself.
2Pe 3:18 But grow in grace, and
in the knowledge of our Lord and
Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be
glory both now and for ever.
Amen.
