Project Goal / Problem Statement At the hospital, Central Sterile Processing prepares instruments for the operating rooms to be used throughout the day. Sometimes, additional or different instruments are needed, requiring nurses to call CSP, sometimes so much that the phone lines are completely tied up.
Need a better form of communicating and logging requests.
The Sterilization Process
Conceptual Diagram Nurses’ Requests sent to coordinator via new visual communication system, possibly touch screen enabled Coordinator processes requests Central Sterile Processing receives requests, prepares equipment Nurses receive specified surgical equipment from CSP, update the needed tools list
Use Case Scenario Surgeon requires specific surgical equipment, Nurse receives these requests from the surgeon verbally or written. Nurse enters the needed equipment via a workstation.
CSP staff receives request from the nurse CSP delivers equipment to the OR
