All courses stage 1, 2 & 3; VET Certificate Studies and Endorsed Programs contribute to the achievement of graduation known as the Western Australian Certificate of Education.

ENDORSED PROGRAMS
Recognise areas of learning not covered by courses.
May contribute up to 10 unit equivalents towards WACE breadth and depth requirement.
Can reduce the ‘C’ grade average requirement for WACE.
Examples include: o Cadets WA o performance in school productions, music & school trips o examinations in music, speech and drama o university studies o Keys for Life pre-driver education program.
Evidence may include a combination of signed attendance records, journals, self evaluation, certificates and validation.

COURSES Stage 1A1B; 1C1D and VET Certificate Courses Pathways include TAFE, Apprenticeship, Traineeship
Practical emphasis together with theory in school. Some courses include National VET competencies. VET stand alone courses e.g. Cert II Tourism - students can achieve National VET Qualifications, which will make them very competitive for TAFE entry.

Some students may have a course which requires them to be out of school one day per week e.g. TAFE or Workplace Learning 7
Vocational Education and Training
Demand for young people with well-developed vocational skills remains strong.
Students can begin training at school and those who successfully complete all of the requirements will gain a nationally recognised certificate qualification e.g. Certificate II Business.
Workplace Learning – demonstrating competencies in a real or simulated work environment.
Direct links into post school VET options.
Vocational Education and Training
Provides credit towards the achievement of WACE. Students can take part in the School Pre-Apprenticeship Program and school-based traineeships which can reduce a post school apprenticeship by 3 months.
These VET qualifications together with students course grades will support students to have the competitive edge when seeking TAFE entry and or employment in various Industries.

Students who wish to use Stage 2 results for university selection will need to have marks in the top quartile of the state-wide distribution in these units.

General pathways advice
Typically … University bound students study Stage 2 and Stage 3 Course units over Years 11 & 12. In Year 12 (final year), all or most of the units are studied at Stage 3.
Students who are planning on going into TAFE , Training or directly into the workforce , study: - a mixture of VET Certificates; and Stage 1 and Stage 2 units (mainly stage 1);
OR
- all Stage 1 units in Years 11 & 12.

Early is better. THIS YEAR is preferable. Any change in 2013 needs to be done by the end of Week 5, Term One.
