Online Meeting Support
•
Online Meeting Support for Apple, Android, BlackBerry 10 and
Windows devices
– Read only, can not add or
update from the device.
– Appended to meeting body of
ActiveSync devices.
Meeting Room for Apple Devices
•
Meeting Room appended to Location field for Apple devices
– Read only, can not add or update from device.
Android – Calendar Conflicts
•
•
When an invitation
arrives, and that
meeting has a conflict
with an existing
meeting, the new
“Conflicts” section will
be shown:
“Conflicts” also shows
on the calendar entry
when viewed in the
details view.
Apple “Save for future events”
•
•
•
By default "Save for future events" is
disabled on the server.
Change will not be accepted by the
server, and original meeting will resync
to the device.
Notes.ini setting to allow save for
future:
NTS_AS_ALLOW_MEETING_SPLIT=true
•
•
Then "Save for future events" is
allowed and it creates a separate new
meeting. Looks the same on the device
and Notes client but you manage the
meetings separately.
“Save for this event only” works without
issue as in the past.
Other Calendar Updates
•
Update notice sent instead of reschedule when chair makes a change
on the device that does not effect date or time.
– Fixes attendee “no response” issue (APAR LO64054)
•
Update notice sent for removing an attendee, instead of a
cancellation.

Prevent Copy
•
•
•
IBM Notes and
iNotes have a
message
classification feature
called Prevent Copy
Recipients of this
message are not
allowed to forward or
reply with the original
message content
However,
enforcement is only
provided by clients
that support this
feature
Prevent Copy
•
•
•
Prior to Notes Traveler 9.0.0.1,
Notes Traveler clients have not
supported this feature. So message
body was always removed by the
server.
Notes Traveler 9.0.0.1 adds support
for Apple iOS and Notes Traveler
client for Android
Windows Phone, BB10 – no change
to previous behavior

security policies
Attachment Security
•
Problem
– Attachment file data can be “opened in” untrusted or unapproved 3rd party
applications
– Business no longer able to control access to the file data
• Could be uploaded to Dropbox or other cloud based service
• Shared with editors that allow “save as” to the SD Card
•
Prior known workarounds using Notes Traveler
– Turn off attachment sync
– Disable attachment export to SD Card (Notes Traveler for Android)
– 'View only' encrypted mail on iOS via Companion
•
Solution
– Notes Traveler Attachment Security Settings
– IBM Notes Traveler Clients and Administration updated for 9.0.0.1
• Web only administration
• Supports Apple iOS using Traveler Companion 9.0.0.1
• Notes Traveler 9.0.0.1 client for Android
Attachment Security
•
Administrator defines attachment handling policies
– Enforce view only option for files where the platform supports embedded
viewing (iOS)
– Define which applications are allowed to consume attachments
(Approved Applications)
•
•
Notes Traveler clients modified to recognize attachment policies and
limit attachment sharing
Advantages
– Can be used out of the box with a small amount of definition needed by
the administrator
– No additional software or hardware requirements (no separate MDM
solution needed)
– No application wrapping, app vendor integration or testing of wrapped
applications required
– Able to leverage built-in viewer technology on iOS
Attachment Security
Traveler administrator enables a policy to only allow built-in viewers or
approved applications to access attachments
Apple iOS
Android
Attachment Security
•
•
Notes Traveler clients enforce that attachments can only be shared
with applications in this list
Changes to Approved Application list are pushed to clients
■
Notes Traveler
administrator

Approved
Applications for

handling
■
If no applications
are defined, only
built-in viewers are
allowed (where
supported)
Attachment Security
•
•
•
Approved application list is based on unique Application Identifier for
both iOS and Android
Whitelist of applications allowed to handle attachments
Application identifiers collected from Notes Traveler client for Android
or via Apple iPhone Configuration utility
Attachment Security for Android
•
•
•
User clicks on attachment in email. If Approved Applications are
installed, user selects which application to use to view the file.
Only viewers defined by the administrator as an Approved Application
are considered for file handling.
Allows for disconnected viewing/handling of attachments
Attachment Security for iOS
•
•
•
No file attachments are present in the Apple
iOS mailbox
Built-in viewing scenario
File data never leaves Companion

Traveler Companion using Approved Applications
– Open In menu will display all possible apps, as there is no way to suppress
individual apps from the list
– If user selects an app that is not approved, Open In operation fails with message
– Apps shared with Approved Applications use Open In normally

Secure application containers
Automatic App Provisioning
Managed applications must:
 Enforce critical security policies such as
data encryption.
 Cannot allow files or data to leak out of
the application to 3rd parties.
 Be able to lock a user out of the
application or wipe the application data
if security compliance of the device or
app changes.
 Provide application and data access
only to authorized users. Preferably the
same authorization is shared across
multiple business applications
implementing the same container on
the device.
•
•
•
Ease deployment of applications by
allowing the administrator to specify
connection settings or other app
specific configuration values
Reduces time user needs to perform
app setup
Reduces help desk calls from
frustrated users that have input
incorrect connection information
Controlling application server access
Companies must be able to:
 Only allow authorized users using secure devices
and applications to access backend services
 Control access to individual services
 Tie device and application management into
service access
iOS & MobileIron
•
Mail, Calendar, Contacts
– Integration with Apple iOS native mail
application is unchanged
– Continued support for data sync via
MobileIron Exchange profiles
•
Traveler Companion & Traveler ToDo
– Previously, Traveler Companion and
Traveler ToDo could not access Notes
Traveler server via the MI Sentry
– With 9.0.0.1, these apps now support
the MobleIron AppConnect and
AppTunnel features
– Dual mode application, supports both
managed and unmanaged modes
– Requires installation of MobileIron
Mobile@Work app
AppConnect security (iOS)
•
App authorization
– Administrator can set a passcode policy for the
application versus device wide
– User must enter app passcode before app can be
used
– Passcode strength and timeout period is
configurable
– Option to block app if “out of contact” for 'n' days
•
Data sharing controls
– Attachments can either be viewed in app only or
only shared with whitelisted apps
– Clipboard data only shared with AppConnect apps
•
Application data wipe
– Notes Traveler Companion and ToDo wipe all local
data when application wipe command is received
via MobileIron administrator
– Options to wipe data after 'n' failed access
attempts
– Option to wipe data after “out of contact” for 'n'
days
Android & MobileIron
•
AppConnect for Notes Traveler Android
– Notes Traveler app wrapped by AppConnect
security
– Common application passcode (no need for
device passcode)
– All communications with Traveler server now
via MobileIron Sentry using AppTunnel
– App username, Traveler server provisioning
now possible using MobileIron VSP config
– Supports attachment controls – only
AppConnect applications can open
attachment data. MI provides an office files
viewer (ThinkFree)
– Controls to prohibit app access to screen
capture, camera, gallery and media player
– Supports Wipe, Lock, Retire operations all
from MI console
Attachment controls
•
MobileIron offers email attachment controls for Apple iOS mail
application
– Attachments are encrypted as they sync, can only be opened by
Docs@Work feature which is included in the Mobile@Work app
– Allows viewing of attachments while offline
•
Notes Traveler Attachment security policies
– Still possible to enable Traveler Attachment security in additional to
MobileIron AppConnect Open In policies
– Enable security policy for Apple devices in Notes Traveler
– If additional apps are required for sharing, use the MobileIron Open In
policy settings on Companion to specify a whitelist of app identifiers
– Traveler Approved Apps list is ignored in this environment
