ICCB Goal
(Illinois Community college Board) The Program of Study Should: Provide a common language for all learners to have the information they need to prepare for college and careers.
College Programs of Study will have a three part designation • Career Cluster • Career Pathway • Program of Study Based on skills and knowledge needed for a certificate or degree
Part 1
Career Cluster
– Broadest definition – Groups of Occupations and industries that have a common set of foundation knowledge and skills – ie: Information Technology Technology and Engineering Education
Part 2
Career Pathways
– Multiple Year programs of academic and career content to prepare students for post secondary options in a chosen career cluster – ie: Network Systems Web and Digital Communications
Part 3
Program of Study
– Narrowest Designation – Sequence of academic and CTE courses that take a student through secondary and post secondary education – ie: Diesel Engine Specialist Surveying and Mapping Technicians
Advisory Committees Should Help:
• Develop Programs of study • Evaluate Programs of study • Revise Programs of study • Use the Path to Results (PTR) improvement process to review programs of study.

Questions the advisory committee should consider

Expectations Tool
– Are we meeting the requirements for each of the six principles?
– Do our activities support each POS principle?
– Can we document what we are doing?
– Are there “ gaps ” in what we are doing?

• Promote discussion and analysis of department opportunities for improvement.
• Curriculum Review • Marketing of the program • Recruitment

Each Department will develop Program of Study plans that will be available on the college web site.
