Historical background of JODI GAS
• Ministers supported
to expand Joint Oil
Data Initiative to
other important
sources of energy.
2006, 10th
International Energy
Forum, Doha
2008, 11th
International Energy
Forum, Rome
• Ministers
encouraged the IEF
to extend JODI to
natural gas.
• On extending energy
data transparency
initiative to monthly
gas data
commissioned by IEF.

Historical background of JODI GAS
• Questionnaire
adopted
• December 2009 trial data
collection
2009, JODI meeting in
Paris
2010 - 12th International
Energy Forum, Cancun
• Ministers
welcomed the
progress made to
cover monthly
natural gas data
for JODI.
• Participation of JODI
partner organizations
(APEC, Eurostat etc.)
and Gas Exporting
Countries Forum

Transparency
Conference, Moscow

Historical background of JODI GAS
January 2013
• Call on
organizations to
make the JODI
GAS a
permanent
reporting
mechanism
May 2012, Gas Data
Transparency
Conference, Doha,
Qatar
• Release of a beta version of the
JODI GAS database.
• JODI GAS becomes a
permanent reporting
mechanism for OECD
countries.
• JODI GAS
Manual
available
• Release of JODI

JODI Gas questionnaire
 The questionnaire and the definitions have
been agreed upon by the seven
international organisations working on JODI
 Questionnaire is small: minimum data
required
 The definitions are already used
internationally in the annual questionnaires
(Eurostat, IEA, APEC) and monthly
questionnaire (Eurostat, IEA)

What could JODI Gas contribute to?
More transparency in the global gas market
Contribution to gas security
Gas market becoming more global with LNG
trade, therefore a need for a global system
Currently not all gas producers and consumers
report monthly data. JODI Gas would bring
more timely data
Global coverage is very important for market
monitoring
