In 2015, employers must offer medical
benefits to all employees who work full-time
hours
Employees who are not benefit eligible must
be tracked during a measurement period to
determine if they meet full-time status
If employee becomes benefit eligible, they
must be offered benefits for the same length
of the measurement period
Employers not compliant with the law will be
fined

Full-time: Work 30 or more hours a
week/average 130 or more hours in a month
(must offer benefits)
Part-time (Temporary): Work 29 or less hours
a week/average 129 or less hours in a month
(benefits not required)
Seasonal: Must be truly seasonal. May work
more or less than 30 hours per week. Must
work less than 6 months and have a break in
service for 13 weeks before being rehired
(benefits not required)

◦ Update HR Policy (summer)
◦ PeopleSoft classification (September)
◦ Jobs classified (July/August)

◦ Standard: January 1 – December 31, 2014
 Employees employed on January 1, 2014
◦ Initial (12): Measurement begins the following
month after start date
 New hires after January 1, 2014
 Example: June 15 start date; measurement runs JulyJune



Employees are tracked as individuals, not by job
