Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) is the Colorado state standardized assessment for language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. • Science and Social Studies are Colorado created. • Language Arts and math are PARCC created. Why is CMAS important? CMAS data will…. • provide valuable information on where students stand on the mastery of the Colorado Academic Standards. • Inform us if students are on track to graduate prepared for the 21st century. • Identify what is working and not working in our curriculum, instruction, professional development and school leadership. • help to ensure every child receives an equitable education on the path to success. Students need assessment data so teachers know students’ needs. Teachers need assessment data so they can grow as educators and meet those needs. What is a “Standardized” assessment? • A test that is given in a “standard” manner to all test takers, following specific administration procedures so that testing condition are the same for all test takers. Why is “Standardized” so important? • Ensures that a test score that one student receives in one part of Colorado is comparable to the test scores of every other student taking the test, even though they may attend a different school or live in a different part of the state. • Ensures that all students have an equitable opportunity to show what they know and that no students are provided an unfair advantage. An infrastructure trial is an opportunity for schools and students to prepare for computer-based testing by simulating test-day network utilization. Think of it as a dress rehearsal for testing day. Infrastructure trials are performed in the PearsonAccessnext/PearsonAccess training site. The Trial will confirm that: • TestNav8.2 is configured correctly • Devices can successfully run TestNav8.2 • Test Administrators know how to log in and navigate in PearsonAccess/PearsonAccessnext • Students are familiar with the computer-based tools and format Why Conduct an Infrastructure Trial? Benefits to administering an Infrastructure Trial: • Schools will create a similar testing environment (e.g., testing rooms, number of testing devices, power supplies, etc.) that will be used for CMAS PARCC testing. • Early detection of school technology readiness issues can mitigate possible problems and delays during assessment administration. • The practice tests can be used to provide practice for students logging in, logging out and navigating through TestNav8. Schools are strongly encouraged to evaluate their infrastructure before testing day to ensure there is time to take corrective action on any issues discovered during the infrastructure trial. SALs/STRs: What trial will you conduct? Infrastructure Trials are recommended but not required. They are highly recommended for charter schools in order to test proctor-caching setup. Possible scenarios for conducting a trial: 1. Testing Simulation*: In the training site, create one test session with sample students. During training with your test administrators and proctors, hand out student authorization tickets and ask them to log into TestNav as students. You will project the test administrator dashboard in PearsonAccess/PearsonAccessnext on a projector screen and show them how to log in, find their testing session, start a test, monitor student status, resume a test. 2. Modified Trial: Create accounts and sessions for all participating test administrators and students but they can conduct a trial in classrooms at their convenience. You will need to know their date/time in order to provide student testing devices and authorization tickets. 3. Full Trial: Replicate an exact testing day situation with same number of devices, testing rooms, test administrators and students. It is highly recommended that you conduct a testing simulation* during TA/proctor training. Preparing for an Infrastructure Trial 1. Schedule approximately 1-2 hours to review the guides and set up the trial in the PearsonAccessnext Training environment. 2. To prepare for a trial in PearsonAccess/PearsonAccessnext, you will: Create Sample Students Create Session(s) Print student testing tickets and “unlock codes” Create TA logins (for those who will log into the PearsonAccess/PearsonAccessnext training site and monitor test sessions). 3. Schedule between 30-60 minutes with your TAs and students. STR must update all devices (must pass a Systems Check) before running a trial -- student devices and Test Administrator/SAL devices Infrastructure Trial Guides posted on onlineassessment.dpsk12.org 1. Infrastructure Trial Guide handout (1-pager) 2. PARCC Infrastructure Readiness Guide. Supplemental Training Module: Infrastructure Trials: Running a Dress Rehearsal -- posted at https://parcc.tms.pearson.com/ These guides are specific to PARCC; a CMAS Infrastructure Trial guide will be posted to the OA site in March. Requirements and Recommendations To ensure ongoing CMAS readiness: ePATs and Tutorials are required for all students – essential for preparing students for CMAS (coordinated by SAL, teachers) Systems Check is required on each testing device (STR) Testing simulation for Test Administrators is highly recommended (conducted by the SAL) Full Infrastructure Trial is recommended but not required (SAL and STR). ◦ Infrastructure Trials are highly recommended for Charters to test proctor caching setup Determine your testing schedule SPRING 2015 Establish Testing Schedule Each school will create a testing schedule within the testing windows provided. Work with your principal and STR and set a testing schedule which includes regular sessions, make-ups and accommodations. Your testing schedule will be determined by 5 factors: 1. Number of students testing 2. Number of available testing devices 3. Time per unit 4. Number of units per window 5. Your school schedule *Refer to Create a Testing Schedule (PARCC) handout on onlineassessment.dpsk12.org Scheduling Guidelines 1. 25:1 – Ratio of students to Test Administrator. If more than 25 students in a testing room, schedule an additional test administrator to be present. 2. 30:1 – Do not exceed 30 wireless devices (including a teacher’s) per Wireless Access Point (WAP). 3. Schedule sessions for the full unit/section testing time, plus administration time (chart on next slide). 4. Computer Testing: To the extent possible, all students within a grade should be assessed at the same time. If not possible, all students should be assessed within the shortest timeframe practicable. 5. Paper Testing (accommodations): A school must administer the same unit to all paper-based students within the same day (ie. Unit 1 on Tuesday). Scheduling Guidelines: Administration Time When creating your testing schedule, add approximately 30 minutes for activities prior to and at the end each unit for other activities (see chart below). Task Time to be Allotted for an Administration Preparing for testing (includes reading instructions to students and answering questions) 10 minutes (recommended) Distributing test materials 5 minutes (recommended) Testing Time: PARCC English language Arts and Mathematics (unit testing time) Testing Time: Science and Social Studies (section testing time) Completing end-of-unit activities, including closing units, collecting test materials, and administering a student survey (after EOY) 60-90 minutes* 80 minutes 5–15 minutes (recommended) *Refer to Unit Testing Times in the Test Coordinator Manual (pg. 6-8) for each Unit Time. 40 Scheduling Guidelines 1. Once the unit/section testing time has elapsed, the session must end. 2. If ALL students have completed the unit/section, the session may be ended (even if the full testing time has not elapsed). There is no minimum testing time. 3. Before students can be released the: Test administrator must follow all appropriate close-out procedures School must know to where students will be released School must know to whom students will be released 4. CAUTION: All students are entitled to the full testing time, without interruption, to complete each session. Students who are productively engaged in testing must be provided the full testing time to complete a unit/section. Scheduling Guidelines 1. Test Units/Sections can only be administered to students in consecutive order. • Only PARCC Make-ups may be administered out of order. 2. You may schedule up to 3 units/sections per day • • strongly recommended for HS students only schedule breaks between units and “stand and stretch” breaks during units to counteract testing fatigue 3. To the extent possible, schedule all content in order before moving on to next content (make-ups excluded). For example, schedule Unit 1, 2, 3 of ELA/Literacy and then schedule Section 1, 2 of mathematics. 4. Consider staggering start times by 10 minutes 5. Schedule first group/first day with cushion time Scheduling Considerations: Extended Time A student may be allowed an extended time accommodation only if listed in his or her IEP, 504 Plan or an ELL. Consider separate grouping for students who are likely to take the full unit/section time. PARCC: • • Time-and-a-half is not included in Unit testing time for Math PBA Unit 2 in grades 4-8. Students can have +35 minutes added to the testing time for this unit. Students will need to be grouped separately. Time-and-a-half is included in all other grades and units. Science and Social Studies: • Time-and-a-half is included in the section testing time Scheduling Considerations for Accommodations Text-to-Speech Students using Text-to-Speech may be in the same session with other students if they use headphones and the noise does not impact other students Oral Scripts: CDE recommends administering Oral Scripts for social studies individually, for science and math in small groups or individually. PARCC: Can units be combined? ELA & Math (PARCC) Testing Multiple Grades, posted to onlineassessment.dpsk12.org. Guideline for Scheduling Breaks Between Units/Sections, scheduled breaks should occur. Example EOY (ELA/L Administration): During a Unit/Section, short (3-minute) “stand-and-stretch” breaks may be permitted at the discretion of the Test Administrator. Guideline for Scheduling Breaks • Scheduled breaks should occur between test sessions. During the scheduled break, students are permitted to go to the restroom, get up to stretch, and/or get a drink, if needed. • Students must be supervised at all times during breaks, including breaks between units. • Reminder to TAs: During breaks, there should not be conversations among students and students are not permitted to use electronic devices, play games, or engage in activities that may violate the validity of the test. Refer to Section 1.5.5 (page 10) in the Test Coordinator Manual. Submit your Completed Testing Schedule FOR PARCC PBA only at this time. http://tinyurl.com/CMASSchedule Deadline: 2/6 ARE will review and either approve or contact you with questions, revisions. Make-up Testing R E F E R TO S EC T I ON 1 . 5 .3 ( PAG E 9 ) I N T HE T EST COOR DI N ATOR M A N UA L . Make-Up Testing • Make-up testing sessions may be scheduled any time after the original unit/section, as long as it falls within the testing window. • All make-up testing must be completed before the end of the testing window. • The same test security and administration protocols for regular administration sessions apply to make-up test sessions. • SALs will establish make-up testing schedules for their schools. • • Priority with make-ups is to minimize the risk of exposure to test content that could result in an invalidation. Misadministrations can occur if students receive the incorrect testing instructions, incorrect testing time, or the incorrect seal code. Consider these factors when scheduling make-ups. Refer to Section 1.5.3 (page 9) in the Test Coordinator Manual. Make-Up Testing • Students who are absent, become ill, or who can no longer test because of classroom, school, or technical interruptions during original units, should attempt to finish a test in a scheduled make-up session. • If student starts a session but does not finish: • Test administrators must note the exact place in the test where student stopped and the amount of time remaining. • Students may not return to questions previously viewed. Refer to Section 1.5.3 (page 9) in the Test Coordinator Manual. Guidelines for Scheduling Make-ups • Students can take up to 3 make-up tests/day. If taking more than one test session in one day, schools should take into account breaks in between sessions. • Make up sessions can be ended when ALL students in a session have completed the test (no minimum testing time) provided the school has a plan in place for releasing them. • Make-up test order: • PARCC ELA/Math Units may be taken out of order for make-up testing only (Unit 2 before Unit 1, for example). • Science and Social Studies Sections may not be taken out of order. Managing Test Sessions in PearsonAccessnext Multiple screens may be managed in PearsonAccessnext at the same time. 53 Accessibility Features and Accommodations Accessibility Features and Accommodations Features for ALL students: Embedded features available within the test itself. Accessibility Features for SOME students: Embedded features that must be requested ahead of time. Accommodations for: • Students with Disabilities (SWD) • English Learners (EL) • English Learners with Disabilities Accommodation Guides Refer to the resources posted to the CMAS website for information and guidelines on accommodations and accessibility features. http://onlineassessment.dpsk12.org/accommo dations/ • CMAS Accommodations Manual: • Colorado Measures of Academic Success: Science and Social studies Accommodations Supplement • PARCC Accommodations Manual: • PARCC Accessibility Features and Accommodations Manual • Appendices, PNP guides, and more. Personal Needs Profile (PNP) What is a Personal Needs Profile? • The Personal Needs Profile (PNP) is used to gather information regarding a student’s testing condition, materials, or accessibility features and accommodations that are needed to take a PARCC ELA/L and Math assessment. For PARCC, you will load student accommodations and accessibility features into PearsonAccessnext through the PNP process. PNP is not available for Science and Social Studies. Accommodations and accessibility features will be assigned in PearsonAccess following the steps in the “Set Accommodations” guide, found here (onlineassessment.dpsk12.org). Personal Needs Profile (PNP) - Help Guides Use the PNP Help Guides to load your testing accommodations and accessibility features into PearsonAccessnext. They are posted HERE. The guides are: PNP Overview, Exporting PNP Data, Importing a PNP and User Interface PNP. There are 2 ways to set up a PNP: 1. Set a PNP for an individual student in PearsonAccessnext 2. Set a PNP for all who need one through a Data Import in PearsonAccessnext this is the recommended Process The window to set up all accommodations and accessibility features through the PNP is 2/6-2/20. Pearson Support: Contact Pearson for PNP support. Administration Considerations for All SAL/School can determine that any student may require one or more of the following test administration considerations, regardless of the student’s status as a student with a disability or an ELL: • Small-group testing • Frequent breaks • Time of day • Separate or alternate location • Specified area or seating • Adaptive and specialized equipment or furniture 61 Unique Accommodations Unique accommodations for Oral Presentation of the English language arts assessment (e.g., text-to-speech, ASL, human reader) must be approved by CDE. • All forms submitted 12/19; no response yet from CDE A unique accommodation request for #1 and #2, below, does not need to be approved by CDE (because less than 1% of our district has requested them) but does need to be submitted to ARE (not for approval but for tracking purposes) – scan/email to [email protected]. 1. 2. Calculation device, including math manipulatives, on the non-calculator portion of the mathematics assessment Scribing, including speech-to-text, on the constructed response portions of the English language arts assessment For new students, the unique accommodations form is available at onlineassessment.dpsk12.org – Accommodations tab. Appendix F. 62 Emergency Accommodation • A case where a student needs a new accommodation immediately due to unforeseen circumstances. – Cases could include students who have a recently-fractured limb (e.g., arm, wrist, or shoulder); whose only pair of eyeglasses have broken; or a student returning from a serious or prolonged illness or injury. • An emergency accommodation form (Appendix G) must be completed and maintained at the school. CDE must be contacted only if a student requires a paper-based administration and materials must be ordered. Appendix G: Use of an Emergency Accommodation on a PARCC Assessment. Also use this form for Science and Social Studies. Keep form in student records. 63 Student Accommodation Refusal Form • If a student refuses an accommodation, the school should document in writing that the student refused the accommodation. • Refer to Appendix H: Student Accommodation Refusal Form. • The accommodation must be offered and remain available to the student during testing. • SALs should send a copy of the form to parents when a student refuses an accommodation documented in an IEP, 504 Plan, or EL Plan. • Form must be maintained in the students record. 64 Access prior to testing: Oral Script PARCC – Oral Script (Human Reader or Signer) • Prior to materials arriving – review and understand the audio guidelines (Appendix J and I) • Review the text-to-speech tutorial so that the audio guidelines are understood (parcc.pearson.com Test Preparation) • Two days prior to testing, a TA may have supervised access to the assessment to determine how to apply the audio guidelines. The TA must check the materials in and out each day. Science and Social Studies – Oral Script (Human Header or Signer) • English and Spanish oral scripts 24 hours prior to testing • Translated oral scripts, including Signed presentation, 5 days prior to testing • Teacher Notes for braille assessment 24 hours. SAL may verify the correct form has been received upon shipment arrival. 65 Spanish Language Arts Assessment • A test is being developed for grades 3 & 4 • It will be a paper/pencil test • Testing Windows: • • • Performance-Based Window: March 16-March 27 End-of-Year Window: April 27-May 22 This will be a census field test (pending US DofE approval) -- first operational administration will be in Spring 2016. What we know as of today…. Spanish Language Arts Assessment Item Review now What we know as of today…. Currently recruiting educators for item review Feb. 3-5, 2015 https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SpanishLanguageArts. Heather Villalobos-Pavia with any questions at 303-866-6118, [email protected] PearsonAccessnext You will create a testing session in PearsonAccessnext and assign all 3rd/4th grade students that will take the Spanish Language Arts test to this session. • Note: These students will not take the PARCC ELA/Literacy test • Note: These students will take the PARCC math test (you will assign them to a regular math session in PearsonAccessnext) Transcription Guidelines Refer to Section 7.4 of your TCM: “Guidelines for Transcribing Student Responses for PaperBased Testing” Transcription Paper-based and Computer-based: • At least two persons must be present during any transcription of student responses. • The student’s responses must be transcribed verbatim into the Test Booklet or TestNav. – Note for braille transcription: Only a braille certified Test Administrator may transcribe student’s responses. • CBT: Submit the test once all items have been transcribed. • After transcription, shred any responses made from an assistive technology device. 68 Transcription Guidelines Refer to Section 7.5 of your TCM: “Procedures for Transcribing Student Responses for Computer-Based Testing” Transcription on Computer-based Tests: – Student responses to constructed response should be entered into TestNav by the Test Administrator before the next Unit/Section. – Student will respond to questions on their assistive device. – Student will Exit the Unit/Section, student should not Submit the current Unit/Section. – Resume the student’s test in PearsonAccessnext/PearsonAccess. – Log-in as the student and transcribe the responses. – Submit responses for the current Unit/Section only. – Student resumes testing in the next Unit/Section. 69 Text-to-Speech While Text-to-Speech (TTS) is available to all students, it may not be appropriate for all students. Student should be using similar access strategies during instruction and have practice with the text-to-speech tutorials. 3 MAJOR issues to consider before assigning TTS: • • • Training: Students must know how to use it before testing Security: There is only one form for text-to-speech Network Performance: File sizes for items with TTS are 4-10 times LARGER than regular item files. Network and computer performance estimates are based on the standard file size *Students using TTS in a group setting must use headphones. Students must be tested separately if they are not able to wear headphones. Text to Speech Tutorial The Text to Speech tutorials provide descriptions and step-by-step instructions for using this feature in TestNav. It is strongly recommended that students who will receive TTS practice with this tutorial. It can be accessed at parcc.pearson.com Tutorial. Teacher Read Directions Teacher Read Directions is no longer an accessibility feature available for all students during CMAS PARCC testing. What test directions can be read aloud? • All testing directions from the Test Administrator Manual can be read and repeated as necessary for all students. These are the directions from the script that a teacher reads aloud before testing begins. • Teachers are also allowed to redirect students using redirection, visual cues and reminders to stay focused and on task (see page 38-39 in the Test Coordinator Manual and/or page 24 in the Test Administrator Manual). What test directions cannot be read aloud? • Once the test begins, a teacher cannot read anything from the student’s computer screen. Teacher Read Directions - TTS What do I do for students who need Teacher Read Directions? For Math, Science and Social Studies: • Students may use Text-to-Speech so that they can hear all testing directions (as needed). You will add these students to your tracking spreadsheet for accommodations and accessibility features. For ELA/Literacy: • Text-to-Speech and Oral Presentation by a human reader is limited to a very small number of students who have been approved for a unique accommodation. Student Registration in PearsonAccessnext 1. DPS will load new students into PearsonAccess/PearsonAccessnext weekly before the testing window, beginning February 2nd. If you need to add a student into PearsonAccess/PearsonAccessnext , you may. A guide will be posted to onlineassessment.dpsk12.org. 2. DPS will load new students into PearsonAccess/PearsonAccessnext daily during the testing windows. 3. One week before testing, you will need to compare the testing list in PearsonAccess/PearsonAccessnext to your school roster in order to confirm the testing list is accurate. 4. Students cannot be deleted from your testing list, even if they are no longer enrolled at your school. You will “unregister” a student from each test (look for a guide on onlineassessment.dpsk12.org). CDE will remove the student from your testing list after the window has closed. 74 Test Security REFER TO SECTION 2.0: TEST SECURITY IN YOUR TEST COORDINATOR MANUAL (PG.11) Create a Security Plan You will work with your principal to create a Test Security Plan. The purpose of the plan is: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. To review your school’s security protocols and implement a plan to handle testing irregularities and security breaches To establish a documented chain of custody protocol To designate a central locked storage area for securing test materials Ensure all appropriate personnel have been trained, understand security protocols and have signed security agreements. Establish who is responsible for shredding certain specified test materials after administration Finalize plan by February 13. The plan must be signed by your principal . Share the logistics in the security plan with your staff during CMAS training. Test Security Plan posted to onlineassessment.dpsk12.oeg Administration Chain of Custody *Schools must maintain the chain-of-custody forms or tracking log of secure material for a least 3 years. Document materials before, during, and after testing. – Any movement of secure materials must be documented. – Complete the chain-of-custody form/school security checklist. Use these forms or create their own to track all secure materials. School Chain-of-Custody Form tracks: • • • • Security numbers for each secure test material Student and Test Administrator assignment Date and time for checked-out and checked-in of materials Computer-based Chain-of Custody Form tracks: • • • Materials Moved from Locked Central Storage Area to Classroom Materials Moved from Classroom to Locked Central Storage Area Materials Securely Destroyed by Shredding Chain of Custody forms for CBT and PBT are posted to onlineassessme nt.dpsk12.org Administration Review Chain of Custody at the end of each testing session to ensure that all test materials have been returned. Maintain Security of the Test The SAL will distribute test materials to Test Administrators each testing day No duplication of secure CMAS materials is permissible (exception: Oral Scripts translated into languages other than Spanish). Return materials to a designated secure location (not stored in classrooms) Distribute only the content area being assessed. Return materials to Pearson after testing is completed. 78 No Reproduction of Testing Materials Test Security is ensuring that there is no reproduction of any test materials. This includes memorization, photocopying, note-taking, photographing, scanning, encoding, text messaging, sign language, Morse code, blogging or using other forms of social networking to share information. Do NOT take a screenshot of any part of the CMAS computer-based assessment. Do NOT make copies of any portion of the CMAS exams. Do NOT copy, by any means, any student work that results from this assessment. Do NOT look at the test prior to testing and prep students on what will be tested (released and ePAT items are okay to share with students) Do NOT share student’s responses with anyone verbally, through the internet, or in written format. Do NOT attempt to score a student’s test before returning the materials.
