Priorities
 Identify R1 students/grad students & contact
o 4,600+ students/grad students
o Give them my plans
o Establish R1 SAC structure
 Keep Charles Rubenstein as my personal advisor
 Select RSR (Region Student Representative)
o Tried twice but not successful yet
 Identify R1 Section EA/Student Activity people
o Assistance of Section Chairs
SAC Committees

Establishing SAC structure
 STRATEGIC PLANNING COMMITTEE among other things, to review the landscape
in other IEEE Regions in regard to student activity and make recommendation for the
establishment of a similar Region 1 committee.
 NOMINATION & APPOINTMENTS COMMITTEE to solicit and select members
for the various Student Activity Committees.
 OPERATIONS COMMITTEE to generally oversee the SAC, make recommendations,
review the processes of other committees, and to review the student committees that
exist in other IEEE Regions.
 STUDENT BRANCH/STUDENT CHAPTER COMMITTEE is to serve as a liaison
among the branches/chapters,
 HKN LIAISON COMMITTEE (HKN is the IEEE's honor society) to provide support and
advise in creation of HKN chapters. This committee will be composed of people who are
involved with existing HKN Chapters.
SAC Committees
 STUDENT CONFERENCE COMMITTEE will eventually divide into other committees to
deal with current and future conferences.
 GOVERNMENT ACTIVITY COMMITTEE to work with the Region 1 and IEEE-USA
government activity committee; lobby members of Congress, local government officials
about IEEE related issues (only IEEE issues).
 SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS COMMITTEE advise the R1 student/grad student
members about scholarships and grants that are available to them.
 PUBLICITY COMMITTEE publicize SAC activities and SAC related activity to R1
student/grad student members and professional members.
 FRIDAY COMMITTEE as in Robinson Crusoe, my man/woman Friday.
