The purpose of this activity is to become familiar with the content and
format of the High School STEM Standards of Practice Framework.
The purpose of this activity is to analyze the developmental
progression of essential skills and knowledge.
• Read each essential skill and knowledge.
• Decide in your group which essential skill
and knowledge represents K, 2, 5, 8, and 12.
• Arrange the cards in order from K – 12.

• What would a high school teacher need to do to
develop the 9-12 essential skill and knowledge?
• How would a high school student demonstrate
mastery of the 9-12 STEM essential skill and
knowledge?
Overall, was the developmental
progression clear?
The purpose of this activity is to identify how the STEM Standards of
Practice look in a classroom.

• What a teacher in your content area would need
to do to encourage the development of the
essential skills and knowledge in students ?
• How would students demonstrate mastery of the
essential skills and knowledge?
