disabilities

Valuing Employment Now The big messages
• People with learning disabilities have missed
out on the progress that has been made for
other disabled people
• People should assume from a young age
that they will get a job one day. Work
shouldn’t be optional
• ‘Work’ means real, paid jobs that meet
genuine employer need, or self employment,
and full time if possible
Valuing Employment Now The big messages
•
•
•
•
People with profound and complex
disabilities should not be excluded from
work
We need to use existing money
differently
We need to raise expectations and create
culture change
We need strong leadership to carry this
work forward
Valuing Employment Now The Goal
•
•
•
•
We want to increase radically the number of
people with moderate and severe learning
disabilities in employment by 2025
As many people as possible should be
working 16 hours a week
We want to ‘close the gap’
This means 45,000 more people in work in
England by 2025
