UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES

Students Returning To The County What To Do?

 Look for a current re-eval (LAB or CELLA) on file. If student is returning within the academic year, student will take re-eval in the Spring.

 If no current re-eval is available or student returns after academic year, give the student the FULL LAB.

 If the student does not pass all four subtests of the LAB, the student continues as an LY, receiving ESOL services.

 If LAB is passed (33%ile or above in each of the subtests), the student is classified as LF using the LAB test as the exit date.  Place the LAB data on mainframe and order a new profile.  Follow LF monitoring procedures.

Re-Entry From LF to LY

Former LF or ZZ Students

 Former ELL (LF) students or ZZ students (LY who were tested but not eligible for services) re-enter or enter the ESOL program if an ELL Committee determines that a language barrier exists.

Former LF Student

 LF students who re-enter are coded LY, entered on a Basis of L (via ELL committee meeting) and have a re-class entry date which corresponds to the date of the ELL Committee meeting.  The date of the meeting is added to the ELL screen on Mainframe (#19).

ZZ Students

(LY who were tested but not eligible for services)  ZZ students (LY who were tested but not eligible for services) are coded LY, entered on Basis L (via ELL committee meeting) , all ELL data is added to the profile and ELL screen to reflect initial program entry.

 Class date will be date of ELL committee meeting.

 In both cases a new Parent Notification (Basis L entry form) is sent to the parent, a copy is filed in the ESOL Blue Insert.  An LY profile is filed in the Blue Insert with ELL Committee Parent Notification and Committee minutes attached.

 The ESOL Contact verifies that the student is scheduled into courses with the appropriate ESOL FEFP (130) code and instructional strategy (D).

Basis L Entry and Exit

Basis L Students

 These former LF or ZZ students (who re-enter or enter the program), and have an entry code of L (via ELL committee meeting) will take the yearly Spring CELLA, but the ELL Committee needs to reconvene annually to review the student’s need for ESOL services.

Annual Basis L Committee minutes need to be included in Blue Insert folder until student exits ESOL program.

 The date of the ELL Committee meeting will be used as the re-eval date on the student’s profile and mainframe if it occurs at the end of the 3 rd ,4 th ,and 5 th year the ELL is in the ESOL program.

If and when you have any questions regarding any of these unusual circumstances, please contact your on-site ESOL Contact or ESOL Specialist.
