Tower Hamlets Health and Wellbeing Strategy What should the priorities be? The journey…. 2006: Improving Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2009: Refreshed delivery Plan 2012: Health and Social Care Act. HWB leading the development and implementation of the Strategy. Significant progress has been made against the 5 strategic aims: • Reduce inequalities in health and wellbeing • Improve the experience of people who use our services • Develop excellent integrated and more localised services • Promoting independence, choice and control • Invest resources effectively The new strategy Needs to: – Build on what went before; – Be ambitious for the residents of Tower Hamlets; and – Prioritise the areas for collective action It is important that our strategy does not focus merely on ‘firefighting’ but provides areas in which there is potential for real and transformative change to impact on local health outcomes. The Life-course The idea is to structure the strategy along key stages of the life-course. Being Born Growing Up Being an Adult Growing Old Factors that affect health and wellbeing throughout life e.g. quality housing, environments that support health, strong social networks etc… Working better in partnership including assets/resources; moving to a more integrated person-centred health experience; engagement and co-production. How are we prioritising? Using the structure of the life-course, answering the below questions to identify potential areas of focus: • Is there high need or poor performance currently? • Is effective partnership required to make the desired change? • Will this issue become more relevant in the future? • Is another body/organisation better placed to make the desired change? So…what do you think the strategy should prioritise? Nutrition and healthy weight? Obesity? Long term conditions? Mental Health? Healthy lifestyles? What do you think is working well? What do you think needs improving? What next?
