Time Line FEMA Recovery Efforts Since 2005 Dennis – Safe and Healthy Schools May 2005 Coordinator (SHSC) made first MCSD Disaster-related FEMA claim since Georges single point of contact (POC) July 2005 Attended PA workshop and gave brief FEMA overview to Executive Staff August 2005 Katrina – SHSC led FEMA claim/POC Sept. 2005 Rita – SHSC led FEMA claim/POC October 2005 Wilma – Dr. Henriquez hired for 60 days to lead process of capturing loss – SHSC – worked first 3 storms/maintained records for Wilma November 2005 Acquired 29 trailers for displaced personal and became lead Coordinator for program SHSC focused fully to Wilma final claims. Worked with John Devlin 8 days over winter break (voluntarily) to write remaining Wilma PW’s. Jan 2006 - Ongoing Held regular meetings to document work progress on FEMA Projects. Compiled 64 page Hurricane Manual Summer 2006 for MCSD from lessons learned from 2005 storm season. June 2006 Returned 20 leased trailers purchased 9 trailers for displaced employees and continue to manage project February 2007 Director of Finance suggested AI as a solution to speed up the FEMA closeout process. December 2005 Adjuster’s International (AI) gave business proposal to board. June 2007 Presented AI’s “plan of attack” to settle the FEMA Claims. Summer 2007 Utilized AI to implement plan SHSC gave updates to Executive Staff regularly. June-August 2007 Recovered and auctioned or sold remaining trailers. August 2007 Met with Superintendent to discuss costs vs. outcome /AI’s strengths/weaknesses. Asked to refocus from “easiest PW’s to April 2008 appeals”. Superintendent met with SHSC to May 2008 emphasize recovery of large dollars lost. March 2007 Worked to find new angles to resubmit claims and to petition state to send down representative to do closeouts. Aug- Sept 2008 Responded to FAY/IKE/Gustav. October 2008 Closeout of vehicles formally submitted. January 2009 Learned that $477K of the $486K lost in Vehicles was going to be recovered. Ongoing Seeking lost dollars from FAY/IKE. Ongoing Working to get Wilma closed out. July 2008
