TELCon Writing
A properly written paragraph needs
adequate support and elaboration.
 It needs a beginning and an ending
 It needs to direct the reader to what he or
she will be reading about

T=Topic Sentence
The topic sentence will:
Introduce the subject of the paragraph
 Be creative and interesting
 NOT be a question

E=Evidence
Evidence=support
 Evidence is the support for the subject in
the topic sentence
 In a research type of paper, it will be cited
 This is a fact that helps prove your point

L=Link
Link is a sentence that links your evidence
back to the topic sentence
 It is an original thought created by you
(the writer) that connects the topic to the
subject of the paragraph
 The link is an explaining sentence
 This sentence is not cited

Con=Conclusion
This is your concluding sentence.
 In a conclusion, you want to wrap up any
loose ends from the entire paragraph.
 Sometimes it refers back to the topic
sentence.
 DO NOT start with IN CONCLUSION!!!

Paragraph Formula
A properly supported paragraph should
have 1 T, 3 Es, 3Ls, and 1 Con
 T-E-L-E-L-E-L-Con
 It should have at least 3 citations in a
researched based paragraph.

Assignment
Literary Terms Essay
• Choose one literary term common in all
three short stories that we have read.
• Write a 5 paragraph essay
• The body paragraphs will all be following
the TELCon format.
• Stay tuned for introductory and concluding
paragraphs!
