What is the Sparkle Effect?
• The Sparkle Effect empowers teens nationwide to include
students with disabilities in school-based cheerleading and
dance programs.
• Students with disabilities gain acceptance and confidence,
become passionate leaders, and help communities to
embrace inclusion.
• Mentors gain leadership, develop friendships with students
they might not otherwise meet, and become role models to
the Sparkles and the rest of the school community.
What do I need?
• An unwavering belief that you can make this happen
• A core group of hard-working, motivated cheerleaders/dancers
committed to the program
• Interested participants in your area
• Support from your school administration and cheer coach
• An adult to serve as the Advisor
• A place to practice safely
Steps to creating a Squad
1. Obtain the approval of your administration, Athletic
Director, and Cheer Coach
2. Recruit an Advisor or co-Advisor
3. Form your core group of cheerleaders/dancers
4. Hold a meeting to define the parameters of your
squad
5. Develop promotional materials
6. Decide on uniforms (grant?)
