Introducing ISMB
ISMB is a non profit Research & Innovation Center operating in the
Information and Communication Technologies domain in cooperation with
private enterprises, institutions and Public Administration.
ISMB has been set up by the two Founding Members (Compagnia di San
Paolo and Politecnico di Torino) in 2000 and then joined by industrial
partners: ST Microelectronics, SKF, Telecom Italia.
Today it counts 150 researchers expressing high competences on the main
ICT areas and their related applications working on about 55 R&D projects.
Compagnia di San Paolo is one of the Europe’s most
important private foundations.

Operate on technology and process innovation following
the paradigm of Knowledge Management - from the
creation to implementation of innovation.
Act as reference institution for the
elaboration of a vision of the future
(including social and economical
aspects) producing concrete outputs
and roadmaps enabling the decisionmaking process.

ISMB Targets
• To contribute reinforcing the innovation processes in Piemonte, in
Italy and Europe increasing the competitive strength of the local and
European economy.
• To become a research partner for ICT-using and ICT-producing
industries and an active advisor of the Public Administration for e.g.
strategic support on social welfare and environmental policies.
• To pursue excellence in applied research through
a continuous cooperation with Politecnico di Torino,
a constant scientific production and cooperation
of international relevance.

Strategic Programs
SP are interdisciplinary programs, focused on process innovation
oriented to sectors in which economical and environmental
sustainability drive changes. Objective is to build up a complete
answer to the innovative demand of the sector.
• Each SP is continuously updating a strategic roadmap in close
synergy with local and international initiatives.

Financial Support
ISMB receives a yearly contribution from Compagnia di San Paolo
Foundation.
Industrial Partners support ISMB with an yearly association fee.
Research Areas as well as Strategic Programs create research
perspectives through public and private projects coming from:

Cooperation Model
Concrete support to partners in the product, processes,
services innovation. Generation of knowledge and
knowledge management in the whole value chain.
Together with ISMB
