Established as a company in 1991, Diesel Power Opencast Mining (Pty) Ltd was
acquired by JSE listed Buildmax Ltd in March 2008.

Diesel Power is a leading service provider of opencast mining, mining services, bulk
earthworks and supplier of plant and equipment to the South African Mining and
Construction industries.

Kobus has 31 years’ local and international experience at executive and board level in a number of leading South African based
international construction companies. Most recently Kobus worked for Basil Read, one of South Africa’s Top 5 JSE-listed
construction companies as Executive Director of Foreign Operations. Prior to that he was the Chief Operating Officer of Basil
Read. Kobus brings valuable turn-around experience and -leadership to Diesel Power and Buildmax.
Herman Fourie (40) Commercial Director
(Appointed December 2007) CA (SA)
Herman qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1998, whilst at KPMG. He has 13 years’ experience at executive and board level
of various companies, including a listed company and 8 years with leading international South African based contract mining
companies, Shaft Sinkers and before that Master Drilling. For the five years prior to joining the enlarged Buildmax as Group
Financial Director, he was the Financial Director of Shaft Sinkers. He stepped down as Group Financial Director of Buildmax in
2010 to focus on Buildmax Mining Services and Diesel Power.
Stephen Lambert (51) Technical Director
(Appointed September 2010) Pr Tech Eng
Stephen is a registered Professional Engineering Technologist in the mechanical field and has 30 years experience in the
operational and executive management of earthmoving equipment in the civil’s, opencast and underground mining industries.
He was the Technical Director of Concor Plant prior to joining Diesel Power and Buildmax and also has significant international
experience.

Dries Meyer (52) General Manager : Opencast Mining
(Appointed August 2008) Underground Mining Blasting Certificate
Dries has 30 years of experience with large opencast mines and joined Diesel Power in 2008 as Area Production Manager. He
started his career in 1981 as Learner Miner working at Rosh Pinah Mine, where he was promoted in 1994 to Mine Captain. He
then joined Moolmans in 1996 and was promoted to Contracts Director responsible for various mining contracts, including
Karibib Mining and Construction Company. His last project with Moolmans was with Ingwe Coal from 2004 to 2006. Before
joining Diesel Power, Dries was Contracts Manager and Area Manager with MCC from 2006 to 2008, responsible for the
Marikana and Kroondal opencast operations. Dries was promoted to General Manager : Opencast Mining of Diesel Power in
2010 and current clients include Anglo Coal, Exxaro, Xstrata Coal & HCI.
Johannes Fourie (34) Consulting Mining Engineer : Opencast Mining
(Appointed January 2005) Degree in Mining Engineering from Pretoria University
Johannes qualified as Mining Engineer and holds a Mine Overseers certificate- and Mine Managers certificate of competency
for Metallifirous mines. During this time he was a regular member of the Mines Rescue Services and participated in several
underground Proto team rescue missions. Post graduation, he was tasked by Anglogold Ashanti head office to develop a
generic Operating Cost model for quick evaluation of new prospects. Thereafter, he was assigned to several special
assignments such as a Feasability for the low grade Alamoutala opencast gold reserve, between Sadiola and Yatela mines in
Mali, West Africa. He later moved to Opencast coal mining, progressing from Site manager to Operations manager.
Humphrey Chitima (38) Divisional Manager: Opencast Mining
(Appointed June 2011) Bsc Honors Degree in Mining Engineering
Humphrey acquired his Bsc Honors degree in Mining Engineering in 2000 at the University of Zimbabwe. He started his career
at Maranatha Ferrochrome and was later appointed as Production Foreman. Humphrey moved over to MCC were he filled
positions of Site Manager and Production Manager respectively. Humphrey joined Diesel Power in 2011 as Divisional Manager.
