AP EXAMS
 Each AP course has a corresponding AP Exam that schools worldwide
administer in May.
 AP Exams provide students with a standardized measure of what they’ve
accomplished in the AP classroom, and are thus an essential part of the AP
Program.
 Taking an AP Exam allows students to experience a college-level exam now,
while they are still in high school.
 Students’ work will be evaluated by unbiased college and university professors
and AP teachers using college-level standards.
 Students’ scores are sent to the colleges of their choice.
 Most colleges and universities in the United States and Canada, and institutions
in more than 40 other countries, grant students credit, placement, or both for
qualifying AP Exam grades.
 At many of these institutions, you can earn up to a full year of college credit.

ADVANTAGES OF
TAKING AP
• Stand out in the admission process
• Earn academic scholarships and awards from colleges and
universities
• Experience college-level academics now, while they're still in
high school
• Save time and money once they get to college, providing
them with more study options and allowing them to move
directly into upper-level courses in their field of interest
• Earn AP Scholar Awards, an academic distinction granted
each September by the College Board to students with
exemplary AP Exam scores.
HISTORY OF AP
at PINELANDS
 The Advanced Placement Program began in the school
year 1990-1991.
 At that time, there was only one class running, and it
took 15 years to build up the program to include 8 AP
classes.
 Only the top students were selected to take the AP
classes, and very few passed the examination at the end.
 We have slowly opened up the accessibility to the AP
classes so that any student interested in taking this type
of class can be admitted into the program.

Do 11th graders who participate in Advanced Placement
classes score higher than students who take College Prep
courses on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)?
Students who took an AP class their Junior Year scored an
average of 1190 on their Verbal and Math portion of the
SAT
Students who did not take an AP class as Juniors scored an
average of 960 on the Verbal and Math portion of the SAT
FINDINGS
Do 11th graders who participate in
Advanced Placement classes have
an easier time getting into college?
Yes~ Since SAT scores are about 230
points higher, and schools look at
course load, as well as GPA which is
weighted higher than other classes.

American Musical Dramatic Academy, Art
Institute of Philadelphia, Boston, University,
Bucknell, Air force Academy, Naval Academy,

Advanced Placement classes take
more AP course their Senior Year?
Every student that took an AP course
their Junior Year took at least 1, up to 6
AP class their Senior year!
RESEARCH
CONCLUSIONS
 70 % or more of 11th graders who participate in Advanced
Placement classes raise their standardized test scores from
NJASK8 to HSPA 11 for the past three years.
 11th graders who participate in Advanced Placement classes
score about 200 points higher than students who take College
Prep courses on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).

11th graders who participate in Advanced Placement classes
have an easier time getting into college because of their higher
SAT Scores and their more rigorous course load.

11th graders who participate in Advanced Placement classes
take more AP course their Senior Year. Many of the students
take more than one course .
MY VISION…
I believe that all students in the general population can succeed in an
Advanced Placement class in High School with the proper tools:
 A passionate teacher who is willing to go above and beyond the
normal duties of a classroom. One who is an expert in his/her
content area, but also has a passion for instilling the love of learning
on their students.
 The resources needed to give students the proper tools (texts,
technology, facilities) in order to learn their topic
 Support from the stakeholders ~the Board, Community, Parents,
and the entire Staff
 A shared vision that is communicated to the Stakeholders.
Time to Celebrate!
 Our program has expanded immensely over the last
6 years!
 We were recognized nationally by the College
Board as ~ AP District of the Year for the second
year, as one of 539 school that expanded our
program by opening access to more students while
keeping scores up!
 We have students going to college with enough
credits to skip their freshman year!

themselves as bridges over which they
invite their students to cross, then
having facilitated their crossing, joyfully
collapse, encouraging them to create
bridges of their own."
