The Nature of Poetry
Poetry says a lot in a few words
Poetry-typically more compact-more condensedmore dependent on sound for effect-more
emotionally charged.
Poets are apt to depend on patterned and
rhythmic speech—the combination of sound and
silence, lighter and heavier stresses.
Poets also use figurative language—imagery and
symbolism—to enhance the total impact

You may choose one of the poems included in
chapter 7, or choose one of your own. If you
need to, you may choose several related poems
in order to have your piece be long enough
Fill out the analysis sheet for Poetry
Write an introduction and be sure to include the
title and poet as part of this.
