Premium Assistance
Government program that offers subsidies to those in
financial need

Foreign driver licenses are only valid for 90 days
Every car in BC must have basic Autoplan
insurance (Cannot drive a car without insurance)
Insurance Corporation of BC (ICBC)

BC education system has three levels:
• Elementary 5-12 years old
• Secondary 13-17/18 years old
• Post Secondary (colleges, universities,
technical schools)
In BC, all children between the ages of 5 and 16
must go to school
Public elementary and secondary schools
are free
To work anywhere in Canada, you will need to
apply for a Social Insurance Number (SIN)
You will also need this number to file taxes
Put your SIN card in a safe place

GUIDED PATHWAYS
•If you have many concerns. For example:
1. Find childcare
2. Find English classes
3. Get a job
•You may want to work with a settlement worker for a longer time
GUIDED PATHWAYS
•For permanent residents who want to develop a working plan to
address multiple issues.
•Clients are paired with a Guided Pathways Worker. Together, they
will:
•Identify the client’s needs
•Set short-, mid- and long-term objectives
•The Guided Pathways Worker will:
•Follow-up with client to identify areas for additional support
•Support and follow-up is typically provided for 6 months, but this
can be adjusted to suit the client’s needs.
•A free service with voluntary participation, but client’s commitment
is required. Client may withdraw from the program at any time
without penalty.

• Are actively seeking work
• 4 month program
• Paired with a volunteer mentor with Canadian
job experience in your field
• Network within your industry
• Practice job search skills
• Learn about Canadian work culture
CULTURE CONNECTIONS
Eligibility
• New immigrants and refugees
• ELSA 3 and above
• 18 years old and above
• Matched with a volunteer mentor who has been
living in Canada
• Meet with host 2 hours/week for 3 months
• Practice English and meet new people
• Discuss Canadian life, history and culture
• Join in with social outings and activities

• In Canada for 5 years
or less
• Age 55+

Canada for longer, you
can bring a new
immigrant senior friend
and join in together.

A 9-week program that includes:
• 4-week group workshops with weekly training
allowance
• Short-term paid certificate training
• Volunteer or paid work experience
• Access to special equipment, work clothing,
transportation and other support

IMMIGRANTS
Eligibility
•Became a PR within the last 5 years
•At least intermediate English skills
•Unemployed or underemployed
80% of the participants who completed the
program have found satisfying jobs.
• Individual career counselling and planning
