Project name: Regional manifestation of global ecological processes in Azerbaijan.
Proposal outline:
In order to avoid natural and technogenic catastrophes the mankind has to develop and realize obligatory for all states and
the regions, understood and divided by all inhabitants Earth, the complex principles of "sustainable development".
Manifestation of global ecological processes against anthropogenous influences, observed natural disasters, a problem of
preservation and maintenance of quality of habitat at the level necessary for preservation of life of people, the environment
suitable for carrying out economic activities, it is becoming more urgent. The last years in environment are observed the
disturbing changes causing accidents of natural character – an earthquake, a flood, a tsunami, etc. which involve
anthropogenic, technogenic, social, economic and etc. consequences. The global environmental problem, natural disasters
are characteristic of Azerbaijan, where there is a certain natural instability, identifies the new high-risk areas. In recent years
in the territory of the republic character of the spontaneous natural phenomena which cause serious damage to national
economy, farms and the population became frequent. Elimination of arising dangers, acceptances of the appropriate
measures, requires timely identification of the reasons of change of quantitative and qualitative characteristics of
environment, sources of influence, duration of action, their consequences, the forecast, a risk and damage assessment, etc.
Formation and improvement of information activities for preservation of natural ecosystems, its biodiversity and rational use
of natural resources is necessary.
Project objectives:
(outcomes, socio-economical impacts) Elimination of arising dangers, acceptances of the appropriate measures, requires
timely identification of the reasons of change of quantitative and qualitative characteristics of environment, sources of
influence, duration of action, their consequences, the forecast, a risk and damage assessment, etc. Formation and
improvement of information activities for preservation of natural ecosystems, its biodiversity and rational use of natural
resources is necessary. The geoinformation system informing on dangers of habitat of the person, the main reasons for its
change, will allow the population to choose activity and accommodation places, insuring itself against dangers. Collection of
material, evaluation of the data processing and analysis with a view to its further dissemination and use of information
resource in different directions. The data acquisition demographic, economic, environmental and social issues improving, as
well as data relating to the development of various types of economic activity. The database unification and harmonization
for the wide public information recourses have distribution and using. The geographic information system notifies about the
dangers of the human environment, the main reasons for the changes that will allow the public to choose the place of
business and residence, protecting themselves from the dangers.

Please describe your own skills, competences and expertise relevant to
the project idea
For this purpose the work was carried out to determine and identify the natural predisposition of the territories
of Azerbaijan to the emergence of natural phenomena. Studied in some regions of Azerbaijan because of its
natural features are particularly vulnerable areas - high-risk areas for the population and the economy. To this
end, a comprehensive environmental studies, analyzed data monitoring, and data sets of observations and
generalizations , including demographic and socio- economic indicators . Have a metadata factographic data ,
current information , the aggregate of which will make it possible to organize a unified database system.
• Principal Investigators of the project (Geokcayskiy Sh.Y. and Afandiyeva I.M.) have advanced experience
on investigation of the geographic and ecological problems of Azerbaijan on the modern level.

• Intrinsic Merit: The implementation of this project could lead to new approaches for use the information
