promise to take responsibility for our
Godchild in every way in the event that the
child’s parents are no longer in their lives.
• Madrinas and Padrinos of Traffic Safety
promise to take responsibility for the safety
of their loved ones (regarding traffic safety)
when there is lack of TS knowledge.
Madrinas and Padrinos
• At the end of this module you
will all graduate as Madrinas
and Padrinos of Traffic Safety
(Safety Belt Use).
Defining The Problem
• Hispanics have lower rates of safety belt
use than other ethnic groups in the U.S.
• Motor Vehicle crashes are the leading
cause of death in Hispanics age 1-44.
• The single most effective way to reduce
injuries in a crash is to correctly use a
safety belt on every trip, every time.
Safety Belt Use
• Do you know anybody that was
injured or killed in crash because
they were not wearing their
safety belt?
• Why do people choose to not
wear their safety belt?
Facts
• She thinks she is not at risk without her
seatbelt.
She is…and so is everyone else in the car.
Laws
• Texas law requires that drivers and front
seat passengers in all vehicles must be
secured by a safety belt.
• Children under 17 years of age must be
secured with a safety belt or in a child
safety seat, whether they are sitting in the
front or in the back.
*Please refer to back seat bullets.
