What is global warming?
Global warming is when the earth heats up (the
temperature rises). It happens when greenhouse
gases (carbon dioxide, water vapor, nitrous oxide, and
methane) trap heat and light from the sun in the earth’s
atmosphere, which increases the temperature. This
hurts many people, animals, and plants. Many cannot
take the change, so they die.
What is the greenhouse effect?
The greenhouse effect is when the temperature
rises because the sun’s heat and light is trapped in
the earth’s atmosphere. This is like when heat is
trapped in a car. On a very hot day, the car gets
hotter when it is out in the parking lot. This is
because the heat and light from the sun can get into
the car, by going through the windows, but it can’t
get back out. This is what the greenhouse effect
does to the earth. The heat and light can get
through the atmosphere, but it can’t get out. As a
result, the temperature rises.
The sun’s heat can get into the car through the windows but is then
trapped. This makes what ever the place might be, a greenhouse, a car, a
building, or the earth’s atmosphere, hotter. This diagram shows the heat coming
into a car as visible light (light you can see) and infrared light (heat). Once the
light is inside the car, it is trapped and the heat builds up, just like it does in the
earth’s atmosphere.
Sometimes the temperature can change in a way that helps us. The greenhouse
effect makes the earth appropriate for people to live on. Without it, the earth
would be freezing, or on the other hand it would be burning hot. It would be
freezing at night because the sun would be down. We would not get the sun’s
heat and light to make the night somewhat warm. During the day, especially
during the summer, it would be burning because the sun would be up with no
atmosphere to filter it, so people, plants, and animals would be exposed to all
the light and heat.
Although the greenhouse effect makes the earth able to have people
living on it, if there gets to be too many gases, the earth can get
unusually warmer, and many plants, animals, and people will
die. They would die because there would be less food (plants like
corn, wheat, and other vegetables and fruits). This would happen
because the plants would not be able to take the heat. This would
cause us to have less food to eat, but it would also limit the food that
animals have. With less food, like grass, for the animals that we need
to survive (like cows) we would even have less food. Gradually,
people, plants, and animals would all die of hunger.
What are greenhouse gasses?
Greenhouse gasses are gasses are in the earth’s atmosphere that
collect heat and light from the sun. With too many greenhouse
gasses in the air, the earth’s atmosphere will trap too much heat and
the earth will get too hot. As a result people, animals, and plants
would die because the heat would be too strong.
Global warming is affecting many parts of the world. Global
warming makes the sea rise, and when the sea rises, the
water covers many low land islands. This is a big problem
for many of the plants, animals, and people on islands. The
water covers the plants and causes some of them to
die. When they die, the animals lose a source of food, along
with their habitat. Although animals have a better ability to
adapt to what happens than plants do, they may die
also. When the plants and animals die, people lose two
sources of food, plant food and animal food. They may also
lose their homes. As a result, they would also have to leave
the area or die. This would be called a break in the food
chain, or a chain reaction, one thing happening that leads to
another and so on.
• Recent research on assessment of Yagya effects in
reducing air-borne bacteria and pollutants shows
good potential of Yagya in controlling Air and
water pollution. As per the Vedic scriptural
descriptions, grand (large scale) yagyas
performed on regular basis for a certain timeperiod help maintain the natural equilibrium in
the various components of the atmospheric
environment. The effects of Yagya help conserve
the eco-system, purify the atmosphere, kill and
destroy many disease-causing microbes and also
remove the air, water and soil pollution.
• Yagya is a scientific process through which the CO2 and
O2 is maintained in the atmosphere. There are various
cycles in nature such as the seasonal cycle, animal
cycle, solar cycle, lunar cycle, rain cycle, etc. In Rig-Ved
and Yajur-Veda, these cycles have been termed as
natural Yagyas, which are being performed
continuously in a self-organized manner.
• When Yagya is performed, the vapor-particles in the air
are attracted and thus lead to desired rainfall. This is
the reason why the scriptures sang praises of Yagya.
Dr Motohama of Tokyo, Japan has studied the effects of
Yagna/Agnihotra, with the instrument for measuring
electric field surrounding the body, He has reported that –
after performing the Agnihotra, the Anahat Chakra
(Cardiac plexus) exhibits similar condition that exhibits
after psychic and spiritual healings.
Selfless sacrifice for noble purposes, it means :
 Sacrificing of ego, selfishness and material attachments and
adopting rational thinking.
 Humane compassion and dedicated creativity for the welfare
of all.
 The philosophy of yagya is the basis of ideal human culture.
Why?
Because it teaches a way of living in the society in harmony,
living style to promote and protect higher humane values.
 Why is the knowledge of philosophy of science and yagya
essential?
Yagya is essential for understanding and experimenting the
science of spirituality like the elementary knowledge of
physics is essential to study material based sciences.
Excellent health.
Purification of the environment.
Psychological and spiritual benefits.
It means supernormal power, peace, prosperity, long life,
connectivity with supreme source of universe.
Four Vedas are the source of the science of Gayatri and Yagya.
The sound therapy aspects of mantras for the treatment of the
ailing humane system at the physical, psychological and
spiritual level are from Atharvaveda.
Musical chanting patterns of mantras and subtle form of yagya
through the cosmic radiation of the omnipresent subtle
energy of sound are from Samveda.
The knowledge of principles and methods of performing
yagyas as spiritual and scientific experiments for global
welfare are from Yajurveda.
The source of Gayatri Mantra in Rig Veda.
There are two basic energy systems in the physical world:
Heat and Sound. In performing yagya, these two energies,
namely, the heat from yagya’s fire and the sound of the
chanting of the Gayatri and other Vedic Mantras, are blended
together to achieve the desired physical, psychological and
spiritual benefits.
The fumigation, vaporization and subtlisation of specific
substances in the yagya-fire constitute a verifiable scientific
method of sublimation of matter and expansion of its colloidal
state, generates ions and energy with positive effects in the
surrounding atmosphere through the specific sonic waves of
the mantras.
In order to get an idea of the various chemical changes
that take place during the performance of yagya, it is
essential to know the various substances used and
offered in the yagya-fire. These can be broadly
classified into two types: wood (samidhá), and a
mixture of odoriferous and medicinal herbs (havan
sámagri).
1. Vaporization of Odorous Substances:
The temperature attained by the kunda varies between 250°C and
600°C, while in the actual flames it can rise as high as 1200°C to
1300°C
2. Combustion of Fatty Substances
3. Photochemical Process:
CO2 + H2O + 112,000 cal = HCHO + O2
4. Chanting of Sanskrit Mantras
With the advent of spectrographic techniques and instruments like
the Multichannel Tonograph and Retrometer, it has now become
possible to study the sound effects of mantras in relation to yagna.
The huge industrial complexes, rapid urbanization,
deforestation, air and water pollution, ozone-depletion,
radioactive wastes etc., which have disturbed and
destabilized the natural harmony of human, animal and
plant life cycles.
The ecological imbalance caused by these criminal
acts of the so called ‘civilized man’ has resulted in a
disastrous threat, not only to the human survival but, also
to life as a whole on our planet ,says Dr. Madhukar
Gaikwad. To combat this problem, Yagya is the ultimate
solution.
A group of scientists led by Dr. Manoj Garg, Director,
Environmental and Technical Consultants in association
with the experts from the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control
Board had conducted experiments during the
Ashwamedha Yagna at Gorakhpur, U.P. These experiments
were set up at about 20 meters east of the Yagnashala. The
samples of 100 ml each of water and air collected from the
surroundings were analyzed, using high volume
Envirotech APM-45 and other sensitive instruments for
testing water and air pollution.
A summary of their results as reported in Akhand Jyoti, Sept. ’97 p.22,

It showed an average reduction by 75% in the level of
Sulphur Dioxide and about 10% in Nitrus Oxide; and Over
70% reduction in bacteria in water samples in the
surrounding area.
Several medicinal minerals were present in the ash
(bhasma) of yagna.
The average level of carbon monoxide was found reduced
from 117 p.p.m. to 0 in some of the experiments conducted
on domestic yagnas at IIT Bombay
Some more ongoing experiments on recording different gas
levels and respirable particles are currently ongoing, being
conducted by some visiting scientists at Brahm Varchas
Research Center of Gayatri Teerth, Shantikunj, Hardwar.
Mantra– subtle dimensions of sound
Shabda ( the eternal and cosmic sound) is termed as
Brahm. Ordinarily, it is being used for exchange of thoughts
but at subtler level and higher levels the selection,
interlocking and appropriation of specific words which we
call Mantra plays the role of getting transformed into
potential energy. We get miraculous advantage by making
use of the causal energy of Shabda in yagnas.
The power of Mantra lies in strict discipline, correct voice
pitch, prescribed rhythm and tone.
In yagna, in order to stimulate the causal energy of the
offering help of science of Mantras is taken.
When a Mantra is chanted collectively during Yagna its sonic
power increases exponentially due to collision of the sound
waves with the thinnest ‘flame screen’ of the quivering fire of
Yagna and high frequency vibrations generated thereby the
subtle interactions of the sound waves of the mantra with the
cosmic energy centre ( Devta) associated with their specific
configurations as carry shabdas.
The fundamental thermodynamic effects associated with the
fumigation of the sacrificed Havishya in the Yagana fire.
The combined effect of the vital, mental, causal, energies of the
people, who are performing the Yagna.
The sound waves of the mantras, instead of proceeding in their
natural circular motion, move in upward spiral form by the
force of the electrons generated by fumigation of Havishya
after sublimation in Yagna-fire.
The mutual collision of these fast moving electrons along with
the sonic pattern of the Mantras result in the penetration in
and out of the ionosphere.
The collective chanting of Mantras in specific rhythm in front
of Yagna flames gives rise to unique sound – wave which have
infinite radiant effects in the outer space.
There are 4 level of voices: Baikheri, Madhyama, para and
Pashyanti which are developed by Gayatri and Yagna
We can achieve wonders of Ultra and Infra levels of sound
by refinement of Baikheri Vani.
Madhyama Vani works in the domain of thoughts waves
and if refined further leads to subtler sound of Para and the
Pashyanti, which are the Vanis of spiritual communication
and the conversation with Brahma.
• Greed, ego, attachments are 3
main cause of Global warming.
There is no shortage of the
resources but out its ego and
the greed human being are
consuming its life force in
making money, developing one
industry after another likewise
at the cost of damaging natural
resources. Yagna is the ancient
Science hidden in Vedas by
which human being get
realization of self and very
purpose of the life by way of
refinement of the personality
which result in unification of
the supreme consciousness.
Thus by the scientific process
called Yagna hidden potential
gets activated, the surrounding
atmosphere gets purified and
charged with cosmic vibrations.
People start feeling a sense
Peacefullness and happiness in
their lives and by default greed,
ego and attachment disappear.
The urge to destroy the
environment also disappears
along with it.
• Yagna, thus, appears to be a promising scientific, cost
effective, eco-friendly method to counter the everincreasing deadly pollution of the environment and
purify and enrich the environment with healthy
ingredients. May the environmental scientists and
the experts of the Vedic Science of Yagna come
together to enable its global expansion. The Dev
Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya at Shantikunj, Hardwar is
venturing to be a pacesetter in this regard.
