Case Study – 2
Leak Reduction in Gas Distribution System
 Objective of Validation process - to demonstrate that leaks are not
invented or exaggerated:
Collection a copy of the inventory of all pipes, valves, flanges, fittings,
open-ended lines, meters and pneumatic controllers covered by the project
(database/statistics on network)
Actual number of baseline measurements is dependent on
numbers&types&network conditions&monitoring system of potential leak
sources. In order to provide reliable figures, baseline is continually
amended and remains fully auditable
Ensuring that High Flow sampler equipment is used following
manufacturers procedures and remains fully calibrated
Detailed description of how this pre-repair measurements and repair will be
organized / Copy of Replacement schedule
Data are regularly written down to the computer database

Case Study – 2
Continuation . . .
 Validation pitfalls/issues to
be checked by Project:
ability of the local staff to
conduct annual re-screening
of every leak
leak tagging system is
appropriate
leak identification procedures
and leak repairs schedule
data recording and keeping
provided with graphical
description of all revealed
leaks at each point
