to states each
year for Title I.
State Educational Agencies

districts based on the
number of low-income
families.
The Local School Department
(called a “Local Education
Agency” or LEA) identifies
eligible schools– thoses with
the highest percentage of
children from low-income
families – and provides Title I
resources.
The Title I School
Works with the LEA to:
• identify students most in need
of educational help (students
do not have to be from lowincome families to be helped.
• set goals for improvement.
• measure student progress.
• develop programs that add to
regular classroom instruction.
• try to involve parents in all
aspects of the program.

methods and materials

Title I Serves Children
• in schools with a high
percentage of children from
low-income families, schoolwide Title I programs serving all
children may be developed.
• other schools will work a plan
and program to make sure
children served by Title I meet
the same high-quality standard
of performance.
• Notice of Title 1 School Status is
provided in the BRS handbook
The School’s Title I
