High Risk Victims of
Domestic Abuse

Definition
 The
Government define Domestic Abuse
as:
Any incident of threatening behaviour,
violence or abuse (psychological, physical,
sexual, financial or emotional) between
adults who are or have been intimate
partners or family members, regardless of
gender or sexuality.

1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience it
in their lifetime
1 in 4 in same sex relationships
On average 37 violent incidents before reporting
Average 7 years to leave abusive relationship
2 women a week die every year as a result of
Domestic Abuse
Each homicide costs over £1,000,000
Domestic Abuse a factor in 1 in 4 suicides


Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference,

Partnership approach – all can refer!
Lead Agency – Derbyshire Constabulary
Core objective is to share information
No single agency can meet a victim’s needs
Early actions identified to reduce risk
Victims do NOT attend MARACs







5 MARACs (Alfreton, Buxton, Chesterfield,
Derby City & South Derbyshire)

District boundaries / local connections

4 weekly meetings held on a Tuesday
MARAC CASES

Any agency can refer

MARAC risk assessment completed for all referrals

Only High Risk victims can be referred – 16+ ticks

High risk of homicide or serious harm

Victim fully aware of the MARAC process
CAADA DASH – Risk Assessment

Recognised risk factors prevalent in domestic
abuse homicides
Questions around, children, family, drugs, alcohol,
mental health, previous incidents, level of

violence, stalking, harassment, pregnancy,

Assessment
Score 1-15 – covers low to medium – local
services – Professional Judgement
Score 16+ – high risk – MARAC / IDVA
Complete with victim – face to face – referral form
Consent & sharing without it!
