Some satellite matters considered by AOPC
• From the Progress Report:
“Space agencies have improved both mission continuity and
observational capability, and are increasingly meeting the identified
needs for data reprocessing, product generation, and access.”
• From the updated Implementation Plan (IP)
− Need for continuity is stressed repeatedly
− Lack of future provision for limb-sounding mission a particular concern
− Highlighted need for combination of in situ & satellite measurement for:
Reference systems
Precipitation
Aerosol, CO2 and CH4
Solar irradiance and Earth radiation budget
• Expect to update Satellite Supplement to IP, timing TBD

At its last meeting, AOPC:
• was informed of reference quality of data from hyper-spectral
sounders and GPS-RO
• encouraged development of concept of maturity index
• was pleased with progress of initiatives such as GSICS,
SCOPE-CM and ESA CCI
• noted that reprocessing of geostationary satellite records
was incomplete (notwithstanding CEOS response to IP)
• continued to be briefed on status of Chinese FY systems
• was briefed on total solar irradiance measurements from
SORCE
