– Innovation is indispensable for organizations to remain
competitive and is indeed a major driver of progress of any

are key to growth, prosperity and problem solving the world over.
It is being seen as a means of creating sustainable and cost
effective solutions and viewed as an important strategy for
inclusive growth of the country.
– A strong innovation eco-system is critical for creating an
innovation society. An innovative eco-system must facilitate the
birth of new ideas and also provide platforms for the successful
implementation of these ideas.

ABOUT
NATIONAL INNOVATION COUNCIL
• Realizing that innovation is the engine for the growth of
prosperity and national competitiveness in the 21st century, the
President of India has declared 2010-2020 as the ‘Decade of
Innovation’.
• To take this agenda forward, the Office of Adviser to the PM on
Public Information Infrastructure and Innovations (PIII) is working
on developing a national strategy on innovation with a focus on
an Indian model of inclusive growth.
• Towards this end, the Prime Minister has approved the setting up
of a National Innovation Council (NIC) to discuss, analyze and
help implement strategies for inclusive innovation in India and
prepare a Roadmap for Innovation 2010-2020.
• NIC would be the first step in creating a crosscutting system
which will provide mutually reinforcing policies, recommendations
and methodologies to implement and boost innovation
performance in the country.
ABOUT
CONFEDERATION OF INDIAN INDUSTRY
• The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) works to create and
sustain an environment conducive to the growth of industry in
India, partnering industry and government alike through
advisory and consultative processes.
• CII is a non-government, not-for-profit, industry led and
industry managed organization, playing a proactive role in
India's development process for over 116 years.
• CII in partnership with planning commission, Government of
India, has initiated the development of an India-specific model
of Innovation Ecosystem. CII’s other initiative in innovation
has been promotion of Innovation Culture.
• CII catalyses change by working closely with government on
policy issues, enhancing efficiency, competitiveness and
expanding business opportunities for industry through a range
of specialized services and global linkages. It also provides a
platform for sectoral consensus building and networking.
