MOHAWK WARRIOR FOOTBALL
“Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch
excellence.” Vince Lombardi
Warrior Offense
• Our success is predicated on a strong running
game.
• A strong running game demoralizes the
opponent’s defense.
• A strong running game “Shortens” the game,
assisting your defense.
• A strong running game “Creates”
opportunities in the passing game.
Why the “Wing I”
• Allows us to compete up front with smaller,
athletic linemen by use of zone and angle
blocking.
• Allows us to be simple but multiple. We use a
handful of blocking schemes for multiple
plays.
• Creates conflict in defense by use of
misdirection…
Why the Wing I, Continued
• The use of all 4 backs and the Split end as
possible ball carriers prevents the defense
from loading up on any single player or phase
of the offense.
• It is a “Series” based offense, with a direct
flow play, a counter play and a play action
pass play….all looking same to defense for at
least first 3 steps.
Why the Wing I, Continued 2
• We can use multiple formations, without
changing any schemes.
• We can dictate the action to our opponent’s
defense.
• We force our opponent to defend entire field.
• Our “Balance” is the threat of the pass, not in
any pre-conceived ratio of run: pass
• Our kids know it and believe in it….
“Believe you can whip the enemy, and you have won half the battle. “
General JEB Stuart
Mohawk Defense
Mohawk Defense
• We are a base “40” front.
• Meaning, we can show a 4-4 or 4-3 depending
on the opponent and coverage call.
• We are primarily a “Zone” coverage team.
• We believe in “Strike, Shed and run to the
ball”
• We believe that our strength comes from
team pursuit of the ball.
Mohawk Defense, Continued
• Speed and tackling ability take precedence
over size.
• We NEVER quit…..EVER
“May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won’t”
George S. Patton
Mohawk Special Teams
Mohawk Special Teams
• We want to speed and aggressiveness on
coverage units.
• All players are in “Pool”
• We keep it simple so that we can play
aggressively.
• Field position is everything.
• We want to create positive plays on returns
and prevent them on coverage.
Role of JV
JV
• First and last, the role of JV is to prepare
younger players for participation at varsity
level.
• It is the responsibility of the coaching staff to
get repetitions of “OUR” offense, defense and
special teams for the younger players.
• It is “NOT” acceptable for coaching staff to
“Experiment” with other offensive/defensive
schemes on Saturday mornings.
Role of Junior High Program
Role of Junior High Program
• Teach the game of football.
• Emphasis on fundamentals of ball handling,
blocking and tackling.
• Develop “Warrior” work ethic in players.
• Afford each player an opportunity to earn
playing time and develop skills.
• Teach “Team before me” mindset.
Warrior Strength and Conditioning
• We use Advanced Overload Training (AOT) a
derivative of the High Intensity Training
philosophy.
• We train to Momentary Muscular Failure
(MMF) on every set of every exercise.
• We use AOT techniques such as Breakdowns
(Regression sets), forced reps and Negative
reps to recruit as much muscle fiber as
possible.
Strength and Conditioning, Continued
• We train the “Big” muscle groups first.
• We don’t believe that any lift is an “Accessory”
lift….every body part is important.
• We train to “Develop strength, not to Display
strength”, meaning, we don’t work for single
rep max lifts.
• As much as possible, we try to be “Ground
based” on our lifts.
Strength and Conditioning, Continued 2
• We condition with the thought that in any
given game, our players may be involved in 80
snaps or more.
• We train with goal that we will never lose in
4th quarter because of our fitness.
• We train to prevent injuries and enhance
performance….not bodybuild….but in training
this way, you will develop “Muscularity”
Why we do what we do….
