The Project Objective was to understand the current level of adoption and future interest in the subject of sustainable supply chain practices.

A research has been conducted among retailers, suppliers, downstream suppliers, 3PL,

Some key findings were: 1.

The awareness of process and product environmental practices as well as their willingness to implement them is above average 2.

3.

4.

Most of them have clear objectives and long term environmental plans concerning the organizational and communication environmental practices The collaboration concerning environmental issues (i.e achieving environmental goals collectively, working together to reduce environmental impact) scores very low Most of them monitor the energy consumption and implement environmental practices to reduce it 

A common definition for Key Performance Indicators

related to energy consumption and carbon footprint monitoring in the supply chain has been developed, based mostly on 2016 KPI Team’s guide (The consumer Goods Forum) and on other European initiatives (e-Save, Fret) .

A Pilot study has been conducted

to test the proposed calculating method of CO2 emissions

A crisis of our times

Why focus on youth employability?

Youth unemployment is at crisis levels:

– – 1 in 4 in EU 1 in 3 in Ireland •

Large reduction in young people in employment

– – 2008: 250,000 2011: 130,000 •

Industry has a bigger role to play in the transition from education into employment

Young people face many challenges...

Job search can be frustrating for young people, many lack the knowledge about job opportunities, how to apply, how to write a good CV and application Confidence is an issue for some young people, many find interviews particularly stressful, not knowing how to talk about their skills when having little work place experience

...and Employers have something to learn too

Job search can be frustrating for young people, many lack the knowledge about job opportunities, how to apply, how to write a good CV and application Confidence is an issue for some young people, many find interviews particularly stressful, not knowing how to talk about their skills when having little work place experience Employer feedback is crucial for young people, yet this is something employers struggle to provide Young people value more open recruitment channels, such as social media, above more traditional means of recruitment

“Our industry needs to continue to step up and play a part to help inspire young people. As IGD’s new president, I want to see as many companies as possible, big or small from all across the food and grocery supply chain, throw open their doors to unemployed 16-24 year olds during Skills for Work Month.”

Fiona Dawson, President, Mars Chocolate UK, and President, IGD

“Greencore is a proud supporter of Feeding Britain's Future. Last year we invited hundreds of young unemployed people to our facilities to participate in skills workshops hosted by Greencore colleagues and this year we aim to do even more. These workshops were not only beneficial for the participants, they also had a positive impact on our own teams. I would strongly encourage other organisations to sign up to Feeding Britain's Future in 2013.”

Patrick Coveney, CEO, Greencore

Why get involved?

• • • • – Invest in young people 98% of participants now feel more confident applying for a job as a result – Be proud of food and grocery 93% of participants say they are more likely to consider a job in food and grocery – Motivate your team 85% of participating businesses said those who helped with the delivery of training benefitted from their involvement – Spot talent Many youngsters so impressed that they were recruited during their training
