ECR France Efficient Consumer Response ECR France Efficient Consumer Response Product files and data pools Local implementation of the global data synchronisation framework: The French experience French working group Jean-Luc DESTOOP co chairs François FERRY facilitated by Olivier LABASSE & Pierre GEORGET ECR France EAN France ECR France Efficient Consumer Response 18/03/03 Rationale Our project supports ECR Europe’s key priority to drive for industry standards It illustrates the challenges of implementing global standards and product data files at a National (Initiative) level It’s a quantum leap in the ECR effort to ensure quality, traceability and consumer safety. ECR France Efficient Consumer Response Agenda Why this working group? Objectives What has been done? Next steps Results / learning Conclusions ECR France Efficient Consumer Response Why this working group? Poor experience with product data EDI GCI initiative: – – New global standard for product file: global data dictionary Vision of network of data pools and data alignment Strong willingness of the French trade Gencod EAN France initiative: – Sponsor of local network of data pools EANnet.fr Support of ECR France ECR France Efficient Consumer Response Objectives of the French working group Ensure common approach for joint implementation Ensure common standard is maintained to get the benefits Ensure new standards and solutions satisfy small and big players Combine local needs and global perspectives Identify and fill the gaps between the international standard and the French market needs Tests, continuous improvement and communication ECR France Efficient Consumer Response ECR France-EAN France working group AUCHAN, BONGRAIN, CARREFOUR, CASINO, COLGATE PALMOLIVE, CORA, EVIAN VOLVIC, FROMAGERIES BEL, GALERIES LAFAYETTE, Groupe LACTALIS, GROUPEMENT DES MOUSQUETAIRES, KRAFT FOODS France, L’OREAL, Les FROMAGERS ASSOCIES, LESIEUR, LU France, LUCIE, METRO Cash & Carry, MONOPRIX, RECKITT BENKISER, SYSTEME U, YOPLAIT, ECR France, GENCOD EAN France, GENFA, GENDI ECR France Efficient Consumer Response French strategy for a network of data pools The standard, only the standard ! Today: identification, classification, logistic data – Tomorrow: product descriptors, prices? – Local implementation of the GCI model on data synchronisation FMCG as primary focus Participation of all the service providers (through a certification process) Development of a network, as part of the international Global Network ECR France Efficient Consumer Response Data pools + Network = The network of data pools Publish once and disseminate to everyone Subscribe once and receive from everybody ECR France Efficient Consumer Response KOMERKO HAHT ILLICOM CAZAN PARANGON @GP EQUADIS EANnet.fr platform EDT EDB Swiss SERES QRS CATALOGIC WWRE VERTICAL Wine AGENA 3000 SYMETRIX UDX TRANSORA INFLUE IBM SINFOS Allemagne ECR France Efficient Consumer Response EANnet.fr, the search function Plate-forme EANnet.fr TRANSORA certified data pool certified data pool certified data pool WWRE GTIN : 3015810774628 ? Adoption of the EAN-UCC standard approved by GCI by French retailers and manufacturers (June 2002) 2. Analysis between the EAN.UCC standard and local requirements identified by the EAN-ECR France working group end 2002 3. Exchange through the network of product data (critical mass end of 2003) 4. Implement of new release of EAN.UCC product file ECR France Efficient Consumer Response Today results Network of catalogues in place: 5 catalogues are interfaced plus 3 in progress – 940 suppliers have begun test of loading data in 1 catalogue – 70 000 product files – 4 retailers announced they will interface, first test Q2 2003 and go live production Q4 2003 – Active involvements of all the French trade and key suppliers Gaps between the international standard and the French market needs for FMCG: – Change request done to GSMP for 8 new fields : customs classification code, permanent/seasonal products’ indicators… ECR France Efficient Consumer Response Next steps Work on extension for textile, white and brown products, do it yourself SKUs. Test Q4 2003 and roll out 2004 Product descriptors : issue a best practice guide: Q2 2003 Tests and tests … Communication and communication … ECR France Efficient Consumer Response Key learning More and more involvement of all actors Good understanding and agreement on the benefits of a common and global standards on data alignment Local implementation of global standard requires: – – Local management of the project by all key actors ECR mindset: working together, common process and standard Key role of Gencod EAN France – – Sponsor the new network Resources to communicate and train all the actors ECR France Efficient Consumer Response Remaining difficulties Standard evolutions and new standard body: need to manage evolving situation Lack of technical maturity of the catalogues Upgrade of ERP to new standard Alignment of data in suppliers system: – IE product descriptors Trade requirement is receiving invoice price: – – So far no standard Confidentiality issue No standard for pictures ECR France Efficient Consumer Response Conclusion Interconnection and publication/subscription between data pools based on the EAN.UCC standard A step to EAN•UCC global network Free choice of the solutions for the manufacturers in the framework of EANnet.fr networks Local implementation for all actors with an ECR mindset It is a long way to go!
