Proper Nouns
Singular and Plural Nouns
NOUNS
Look around you.
What do you see?
A book? A chair?
Everything you see is a
noun.
A noun names a person,
place or thing.
Look for the nouns in
the following
sentences.
A boy from Florida
brought his rabbit to
school in a cage.
The rabbit got out of the
cage.
The boy ran after his
rabbit.
It hopped down the hall
and into the cafeteria.
It ate the salad.
All of the blue words are
nouns.
Nouns name
people, places
and things.
Can you find the nouns
in the following
sentences?

2. The sandwich is on the table.
3. The lamp burned my finger.
4. The children played jump
rope on the playground.
5. Sarah saw paintings and art
at the museum.
PROPER NOUNS
Daytona Beach, Florida
George Washington

These nouns name a certain
place, a certain person, or a
certain thing.
We call nouns that name
specific people, places,
or things:
PROPER NOUNS.
All Proper Nouns must
start with a capital
letter.
Your name starts with a
capital letter.
Your name is a
Proper Noun.

Remember to capitalize it!

thing, or it can name
more than one thing.
Another name for just
one of something is
singular.

singular nouns.

plural.
Plural nouns name more
than one person, place,
or thing.
All of these are
plural nouns.

books cups computers
All you do to make
most nouns plural is
add the letter “s” to
the end of the word.
But some nouns already
end in s, or ss. They
need an “es” at the end
to make them plural.
bus = buses
dress = dresses

For nouns that end in
ch, sh, or x,
you also have to add
“es” to make them plural.
lunch = lunches

There are some nouns
that you don’t use “s”
or “es”, instead you
spell the word a new
way, like this:
