• Art was centered around humans
– Tried to create the perfect person
– Gave human bodies to their gods
– Tried to achieve a balance between
intellectual and physical discipline
• Excelled in math, science, architecture,
philosophy, poetry

• 600 - 480 BC - Archaic Period
• Similar to Egyptian style
• 480 - 323 BC - Classic Period
• Change in posture, facial expressions, draped
clothing
• 323 - 150 BC - Hellenistic Period
• Shows more emotion
Archaic Period
• Started out similar to Egyptian style
• Contrapposto- standing with a leg in front
