 Tonight
we will have several information
stations for the public to visit.
 Please visit those areas that you are
interested in and ask questions of the staff.
 Pick up a copy of the feedback form to
provide us with your thoughts on the
project.
 Follow the progress on the Board’s web
site.
 Information
stations:
 Planning enrolments and demographics.
 Draft options for the project.
 Photos of ‘typical’ new features found in
recently constructed schools.
 Pick up your feed back form.
 Halton
DSB has projected enrolment
growth in Milton.
 There are currently no new sites to
construct a school on. (there will be sites
in the future)
Board staff suggested that we use an
existing school/site and make it larger.
 The Ministry of Education has approved the
funding for a new school on the Martin St.
P.S. site.
 Several options are being considered and
will be explained at the information
evening.

A
‘new’ school would be designed to
include the following:





Junior Kindergarten to grade 8
740 pupil places
Speciality rooms for science, technology and
music
Larger gymnasium
Support rooms
 In
addition to the new building there are
site related items that will also be looked
at:





Parking
Bus loop/drop off
Car loop/drop off
Playground
Kindergarten play area
 Remove
the existing building.
 Build new school in the location of the
original building.
 Recreate or relocate heritage parts of the
original building.
 Students would have to be relocated off
site during construction.
 Schedule would be longer than other
options.
 Build
in the existing location of the school.
 Students would have to be located off site
at other school(s).
 Existing sections or parts of the school
could be reused.
 Timing of the building and student moves
need to be known and targets reached.
 Lowers the ‘change’ to the area.
 Build
a new ‘school’ next to the existing
building.
 May allow for students to remain on site.
 Enables the ‘move’ into the new building
to occur at almost anytime.
 Some restricted use of the existing site
during construction.
 Safety and scheduling must be coordinated
 There
are some unique characteristics of
the site:
 Located behind existing residential homes.
 Looped drive is behind homes.
 Rail line to the South West.
 Triangular shape of the property.
 History of the building.
 We
have created a form for you to provide
us with your feedback on the project.
 Feel free to pick up a copy at the
information meeting or on line.
 Or submit your comments in your own
form.
 Please return the form to ‘Gerry Cullen’ at
the JW Singleton Center by March 23, 2015
 You can use any schools mail system.
 Staff
will be gathering information from
tonight, the Architect, the Town of Milton
and Region of Halton.
 A report will be prepared by staff
recommending a specific approach to this
project.
 Trustees will set the direction at a meeting
in May/June.
 Following
approval of the approach staff
will proceed with the details of design and
approval.
 Only after an option is approved will we be
able to confirm the schedule.
 We will keep the community informed
through the school and the Board’s web
site.
 Thank
you.
