PHYSICAL FEATURES
 Has a very broad head
 Big floppy ears set on top of
the head
 Has very dark eyes normally
 Big round black nose with
large nostrils
 Think full furry neck
 Bushy tail that may curl
GROOMING
 Has very long hair that needs to be
groomed at least 3 times per week
 If the animal is outside, they need to be
groomed when they come in to get tangles
and brush out
 For grooming, need a pin brush for the
long hair
 During shedding times, need a shedding
brush
 Does not need to be bathed frequently, but
outside is best for this large dog breed
PERSONALITY
 Are very friendly
 Good with family but should
not be around little kids
 Very intelligent dog breed
 Needs lots of exercise
otherwise with be overactive
when around people
 Very loyal animal
SIZE AND WEIGHT
 Males – 27.5 Inches
 Females – 25.5 Inches
 Weight can be anywhere from
120 pounds to 180 pounds
 Ideal
~ Males are 170 pounds
~Females are 160 pounds
COAT AND COLOR
 Short and Long Coats
~Short hair smooth across the
body, bushier hair on tails and the
thighs
~Long hair is wavy but never curly,
thinker fuller tails and thighs
 Colors include red with white
markings, white with red markings
and sometimes black markings on
the head
BEST KNOWN FOR
 St. Bernards are best for
family dogs
 Use to be used for medical
reasons in the wars using the
package around their neck
 Pulls sleds for transporting
goods
 Not used in many other ways
today

 One of the most famous Saint
Bernard in history is
Beethoven
 The first movie came out in
1992 and was an instant star
 Since then, there has been
several more movies with
Beethoven in them
FUN FACTS!
 St. Bernards do not like hot
weather they prefer to live in
colder regions because of their
long hair
 These dogs separation anxiety
problems if they are kept away
from their families too long
 They love other animals and like
to play with them including cats
