Understanding File Management
Creating and Saving a File/Document
To save a file the first time:
1.Click File > “Save As”
2.In the “Save in” box, select the
location where you want the file
saved.
3.In the “File name” box, give the
file a name.
4.Click the “SAVE” button.
After you save the file the first
time, you can then:
•Use the quick keys CTRL + S
• Click the SAVE button.

Locating Your Disk/Drive
• It can sometimes be difficult to find the
slots for your flash drives.
• The USB ports on your computer might
be in the front or back of the CPU. On a
notebook, the ports might be on the back
or side.
• The name of the flash drive that appears
in Windows Explorer depends on the
brand.
• The letter assigned to your flash drive
might vary from what is shown and
referenced in this unit
NOTE: If you can’t locate the various
drives, click the “MY COMPUTER” icon
and the drives will appear as shown here.

Opening a File/Document
When you want to an existing file, you can either:
1.Locate the file on your drive/disk and double-click it to
automatically open the file and the program used to create it at the
same time.
2. Open the program that was used to
create the file; then, select locate the
file by using the FILE menu > Open
option.
3. You can also open an
existing file if you are in the
program” by:
• Using the quick keys
CTRL + O
• Clicking the OPEN
button.

help you
organize your
