Ad Hoc Goals
• Goal 3.4: Review and develop statewide transition
pathways for adult education students to advance to
higher programs, postsecondary programs and
employment
• Goal 3.4a: Examine High End of ABE Program and
the GED Program with the goal of making them more
relevant and rigorous
• Goal 6: Ready for College Program

education students to advance to higher programs, postsecondary programs
and employment
Activities:
• Review transition research, relevant survey
samples
• Develop 35-question survey instrument
• Disseminate throughout 5 Regions
• Examine existing transition pathways
• Determine data sources/elements

• Create linkages between AE and CTE staffs to
implement career pathway programs in AE
• Address gap between the highest level of
ELL/ESOL students and the next transition
level, e.g. GED to postsecondary
• Provide professional development with goal of
changing perception of AE

Goal 3.4a:
Examine high-end of ABE program and the GED program with the
goal of making them more relevant and rigorous
Activities:
•
Review curriculum levels of other states
•
Conduct a gap analysis for math, language and
reading and compared it with the academic skills
measured on the Computerized Placement Test
(CPT)/Accuplacer
•
Create a correlation matrix between cut off scores
for TABE (9 & 10), GED scores and the CPT

Goal 3.4a Findings:
•
Conducted gap analysis of DOE’s high end ABE and
GED Curriculum Standards for math, language and
reading that are missing on the TABE, or the GED test
and compared what is missing on CPT
•
Confirmed what research says – GED students most
challenged by math section
•
Confirmed that there is no correlation between TABE
and GED and the CPT

Goal 3.4a - Recommendations (selected):
• Emphasize most often missed GED questions
• Increase level of math preparation in
practitioners
• Provide traveling math instructor and math
hotline
• Consider re-introducing GED Plus curriculum
• Encourage ABE & GED students experience
the culture and rigors of college

Goal 6.1: Review and discuss the 2007 USDOE Ready
for College Grant Application. Recommend Training

Activities:
• Identify successful institutions who
received grant and interviewed them
•
Post interview findings on Google.Docs
•
Conduct “research reviews” and posted
them on Google.Docs

Goal 6.2: Create and print comprehensive
implementation guide and training module for adult
educators
Activities:
• Phone interviews act as outline for the “Ready
for College” implementation and training
module
• Electronic and actual “tool kit” for teachers to
use as they ready GED earners to transition to
postsecondary education
• Presentation - Dr. Tony Iacono, Developmental
Dean of Development Education at Indian
River State College, on successful
transitioning of students at IRSC

Have a Transition Specialist on site at school districts,
technical centers and state colleges

Review and insure articulation agreements between
secondary and postsecondary for adult and PSAV
