The outstanding chemist Dmitriy Ivanovitch Mendeleyev, the
author of the periodic law and periodic table of chemical
elements, was the Head of the State Examination Board in
1903 when the first engineers graduated from the Institute.
In accordance with the Decree of the President
of Ukraine L.Kuchma, issued April 8, 1995,
№289/95,
Kyiv Polytechnical Institute (KPI) was granted
the name of National Technical University of
Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnical Institute” (NTUU
“KPI”).
Now the university has:
• 20 educational faculties,
• 8 educational-research institutes,
• 13 research institutes,
• 10 engineering centers
The staff of the

• over 2000 professors, associate professors,
assistants,
• 38800 students,
• 500 postgraduates.
Among them up to 900 foreign students and
about 80 postgraduates from 50 countries of the

International links
 More than 6000 foreign citizens from many countries
have graduated from Kiev Polytechnical Institute and now
work in 112 countries. Among them there are ministers,
diplomats, cosmonauts, prominent scientists in different
spheres of science and technology, businessmen.
 The University has got an impact for more wide
international relations during the last 10-15 years with the
aim of integration to European information and
educational systems.
 The University has contacts with 82 technical universities
of the world.
International links
 Beginning from 1994 the branch of the Goethe-Institute
works for studying the German language, history,
science, culture, traditions of the German people.
 NTUU"KPI" together with the leading universities of
Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, participates in
projects of the program TEMPUS (TACIS) of European
Union.
 At the university the Center of European languages
functions, the Center of the Business French Language is
opened
URAN Project
 From 1998 under support of the European Union
experts and the Department of scientific programs
of NATO, the Network URAN (Ukrainian
Research & Academic Network) is developed.
 The basic center of the network is NTUU «KPI» –
the leader in the sphere of information technology.

Main Directions
of Activity of UCDE
• Preparation of projects of standard and legal documents of Distance Education
System;
• Coordination of development and implement of distance education technologies
at the educational institutions;
• Development of distance courses due to the international standards in distance
education;
• Coordination of Distance Education Center's activity concerning interaction
with regional telecommunication centers of URAN which is the basic transport
system of Distance Education System data transmission;
• Development and implement of the largest effective information and
educational program means;
• Providing of education and retraining of the personnel for Distance Education
System;
• Participation in creation of the state library of distance courses (normative
disciplines).
International Projects Center
The goal of the International Projects Center at
the NTUU "KPI" is to focus scientific and
technical potential of NTUU “KPI” on new
scientific trends in education, basic and applied
research, carrying out international projects
and providing University subdivisions with
assistance in developing international scientific
and technical co-operation, promotion of the
University international activities.

projects
• WISTCIS: project is devoted to implementation of modern
methods of teleworking in the scientific and educational spheres,
especially application to Geology and Geophysics;
• TELESOL: project devoted to implementation of new methods
of cooperative working to increase the efficiency of business
projects between the countries of EU and CIS;
• TELECHEZ: project devoted to monitoring and prevention of
possible risks on the territories of Ukraine and Western European
countries in connection with Chernobyl problems.

Promotion for Commonwealth of Independent States
• WISTCIS kick-off conference «Teleworking in research,
medicine and business» was held in NTUU «KPI» on 19-21
April 2001.
