• Second time teaching the African Americans in Paris class
• Conversational French
• Teaching and research interests in minority politics, American
government, public policy, and African American Studies.
The Cost ($2117 for Undergraduates) Includes:
• Round-trip travel from the Charles de Gaulle airport to the hotel
• Accommodations in double rooms at a Parisian hotel
• Breakfast daily, a welcome and farewell dinner
• A subway pass
• Tickets to all sites
• An on-site orientation
• Pre-departure materials
• Computer and internet access at the hotel and API Center

• You do not have to speak French
• I will meet with the students at least once before we leave to assist with

the class and trip.
The Class Consists Of:
• 4 or 5 online lectures (20 minutes each)
• Online documentaries (45 -55 minutes each)
• Two Textbooks:
• African Americans in the City of Light by Tyler Stovall
• Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin
• 4 or 5 papers (depending on whether you receive 2 or 3 credits)
• Four are 3-4 pages each for students getting 2 credits.
• Students receiving 3 credits must write an addition 8-10 page paper that is
due before the spring semester ends.
• The deadlines on the papers are flexible.

• Sunday March 1 – Arrival and hotel check-in, orientation, dinner
• Monday March 2 – Breakfast, 3 hour Black Paris tour, free evening
• Tuesday March 3 – Breakfast, Tour of Alexandre Dumas’ and Josephine
Baker’s homes in suburban Paris, Eiffel Tower tour
• Wednesday March 4 – Breakfast, Black art tour at the Louvre, Boat cruise
of River Seine
• Thursday March 5 – Breakfast, Versailles Palace tour, free evening
• Friday March 6 – Breakfast, Free Travel Day
• Saturday March 7 – Breakfast, Tour of Paris Parliament, dinner
• Sunday - Departure

• The costs range from $150 (round-trip transportation by train, guided
