Proper noun Proper noun Plural Nouns Rule Add –s to most singular nouns. bell = bells book = books Plural Nouns Add –es to nouns that end in s, sh, ch, x, and z. lunch = lunches dish = dishes Plural Nouns For nouns ending in a consonant + y, change the y to an I and add es. baby = babies penny = pennies candy = candies Plural Nouns For nouns ending in a vowel add y add s. boy + s = boys monkey + s = monkeys Plural Nouns For most nouns ending in f or fe, change the f to v and add es or s. leaf = leaves loaf = loaves life = lives Plural Nouns Watch out for irregular plurals that follow no rules.
