Grants programme funding streams 2015-16
 Main grants between £5,000 and £40,000 for
projects which contribute to Hackney's Sustainable
Community Strategy objectives.
 Open now, closing date Friday 19th September 2014

 Holiday Playscheme grants for up to £8,000 to
deliver high quality playschemes for children and young
people during school holidays.

Grants programme funding streams 2015-16

Small grants of between £1,000 and £5,000, for
projects which contribute to Hackney’s Sustainable
Community Strategy objectives.

Two rounds of small grants during the year.

First round is open to applications from the 5th
November 2014 until the 12th December 2014.

Second round opens for applications from the 15th
April 2015 until the 22nd May 2015.
Grants programme funding streams 2015-16

Community Chest grants are available for local
groups that want to deliver short term or one-off
activities.

Organisations can apply for up to £1,000 to deliver
projects which contribute to the Hackney Equality
Objective ‘To foster good relations by building a
strong sense of community, neighbourliness and
pride’.

Open for applications in April 2015.
Hackney's Sustainable Community Strategy 2015/16
6 Objectives

Objective 1: Reduce poverty by supporting residents into sustainable
employment, and promoting employment opportunities.

Objective 2: Help residents to become better qualified and raise educational
aspirations.

Objective 3: Promote health and wellbeing for all, and support independent
living.

Objective 4: Make the borough safer, and help people to feel safe in Hackney.

Objective 5: Promote mixed communities in well-designed neighbourhoods,
where people can access high quality, affordable housing.

Objective 6: Be a sustainable community, where all citizens take pride in and
take care of Hackney and its environment, for future generations.
Holiday Playscheme Grants

Holiday Playscheme grants for up to £8,000 to deliver
high quality playschemes for children and young
people during the school holidays.
The Grants Programme also has a seventh objective to provide good quality
holiday play schemes for children between 4 and 15 years of age which:





Provide a well balanced programme of play activities which produce a
range and diversity of choice for children and encourages creativity.
Provide affordable childcare in school holiday periods enabling parents to
work
Provide places for children whose parents who are not working
Provide places for children with special needs or disabilities
Meet Ofsted requirements for Early Years and/or Childcare provision if
relevant.
Number of applications


Organisations can apply for a grant in more than one
funding stream. For example, an organisation can
apply for a Main, a Holiday Playscheme and a Small
Grant in the same financial year.
Organisations can also apply for more than one Main
or more than one Small Grant in the same funding
round as long as the applications are under different
Sustainable Community Strategy objectives. For
example, an organisation can apply for two Small
Grants under objective 1 and 2 however it cannot
apply for two Small Grants which are both under
objective 1.
Objective, Outcomes and Outputs
All applications for main grant funding are
required to identify:
 One Sustainable Community Strategy
Objective
 Up to three of the Sustainable Community
Strategy outcomes
 Up to 7 Outputs (please choose from standard
list).

Who can apply




Social Enterprises and Community Interest
Companies (CICs) are only eligible to apply for a
grant if they operate on a wholly not-for-profit basis.
This means that the following criteria must be met:
100% of surplus funds are reinvested into the
organisation
Executive directors operates in a voluntary capacity
and not as paid shareholders
As an indicator of the above, there is no ‘profit
distribution’ clause in the governing document

Deliver actions which aim to narrow the gap in
outcomes between certain disadvantaged groups
and the wider community
 Improve the way we listen to our residents and
respond to service users' feedback to improve
services
 Foster good relations by building a strong sense



Employers Liability/ Public Indemnity Insurance
Safeguarding Children Policy and / Vulnerable Adults Policy (if
applicable)
The number of staff, volunteers and Trustees working with
children and young people and/or vulnerable adults with
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificates (previously CRB
checks) and certificate numbers. You will note be required to
submit names and CRB certificates.

The panel will expect to see clear evidence that the project is
needed by the potential users. Use up to date figures or quotes
to demonstrate need.

 Evidence from the Census. www.ons.gov.uk
 Evidence from research carried out by the Local Authority,
Central Government or other agencies.
 Evidence that this work does not replicate that carried out by
other organisations. They may be doing the same work, but you
should be able to show that the need exceeds what is already
being provided.
