I can implement data
notebooks to track student
progress.
Data notebooks are used to assist educators
and students in using data to drive instruction.
Students gain the opportunity to own their
learning. The notebook generally contains
student goals, student assessments,
objectives, and progress monitoring data.
NOTE:
Data Notebooks correlate with
Standards Based Grading.
• To implement Standards Based Grading
• To help students analyze their progress
• To have data to present to parents at
conferences (Parent/ Teacher, RTI, etc.)
• To have data to effectively analyze what
we need to do help our students.
• To have our students set goals and be
responsible for their own learning.
• Classroom Mission Statement
• Student Goals
• Sight Word Checksheet, Running Record Information,
Fluency Checks
• Common assessment data and target sheets for multiple
content areas (i.e. reading, language, and math)
 Common Assessment (white paper)
 Practice- If student did not master the unit standards, he or
she will continue to work towards mastery (yellow paper).
 Retest- Students will take the retest after student has
mastered the practice activities (Green Paper).
• Use the notebook as a guide for your
conference. Use data to prove mastery of
standard. Use data to help parents/ guardian
understand areas of concern.
