MALS-36 Conditional Inspections
• Conditional Inspections are performed on 10 major areas
on every MF on a monthly basis.
• The criteria follows the design of a CSC inspection and
documents corrosion issues in a logical and intuitive
manner.
• Provides visibility to all levels of the chain up to the
Commanding Officer through the CPI/Performance brief.
• Can be utilized as a specific tool to make targeted and
critical CC efforts to prevent MFs from corroding beyond
serviceable limits.
• Is available to all work center supervisors to understand
where they can assist and support the MFC while providing
Officers visibility on areas that are failing and need focus.
Squadron Summary
Overall snapshot of where the squadron is based on division. The percentages
are representative for Division Officers to understand their division’s standing.
Historic Trend Analysis
This chart demonstrates the squadrons readiness for inspection over time. The
material condition of the Mobile Facilities is the most important aspect of an
inspection and is represented appropriately here.
Division Trending
Division/Department trending, allows Division Officers to see problem areas and
address them appropriately through work center supervisor intervention or
mass corrosion teams.
Data Set
• The data set is also available
so asset owners can see
their current breakdown
numerically.
• Each division average is
appropriately weighted
when calculated for each
work center’s physical
inventory of MFs.
• Successful work centers are
showcased here and in the
division breakout. This will
identify work centers that
are successful and ones that
are not.
• Combined with the trends,
it is easy to spot shops that
perform improper CC work.
Data Set (Cont.)
• Historical performance shows divisions and work centers which are sustaining the
program effectively, ones that continue to neglect their MFs, and the ones that
paint over corrosion.
• Large swings in readiness indicate painted over corrosion that will only pass for a
short time compared long term success indicating proper and continued upkeep.
Inspection Results
Simple display of
the results allows
targeted
application of
manpower. It’s
made available to
everyone from
the CO to the
individual Marine
via Sharepoint.
Training
• Uniform training is provided to all ‘O’
level user of MFs regarding both
evaluation and treatment of the
major inspection zones.
• The same criteria which the
inspection applies is also available to
all users through power points and
process training.
• Follow-up and sustainment training
can be performed by supervisors
anytime. All training is available on
the Sharepoint.
• Consistency is critical and creating a
stable process allows fair and
consistent inspections with less
subjectivity in the results.
Additional Efforts (CRSP)

While our focus is always the Mobile
Facility, we cannot forget the support
equipment that goes along with the
Mobile Facilities.
The CRSP offers a great option at
maintaining and sustaining TQGs in a
preservation status at no cost to the unit.
Quotas are prepaid and often wasted if not
available slots are not filled.
TQGs are eligible for these slots and can be
submitted with relatively no hassle.
An example form is displayed to the right.
Assets must be drained first, but will be
placed in a climate controlled storage
building.
They will even receive corrosion control
and new paint jobs!
Did I mention it’s free for the unit?
Prepaid Marine Corps funding that will go
to waste if you don’t use it.
